Default ISF purchase w/ 111k miles questions

Fellow F owners,

I am looking at purchasing a F with 111,xxx miles. I have been researching potential known issues with the 2008s, but what maintenance issues would need to be done to ensure the cars like goes through 200k.

My biggest concern is the transmission and that they are sealed. Has any F owners doing a flush of the tranny fluid?

Any insite would be greatly appreciated.

Matt

The F is very reliable. I daily it everyday. Check for water pump leaks as that was very common to fail for earlier models. The tranny is pretty much bullet proof. Lobuxracer had his ATF checked by Blackstone. Blackstone testings showed that the ATF was still ok @ 100k miles. It may however be low on ATF so you may need a dealer or have knowledge of using techsteam to fill it back up. At those stated miles, I would check belts and fluids. May need a simple tune up and you should be fine.

Yeah check items like he said above. I wouldn't be too worried about it. Lexus reliability is always at the top of the charts. Well maintained it should do 250k+ miles easy

Honestly .....this is THE best performance car you can buy as a used DD with 4 doors imho. Lexus reliability and refinement and it looks and sounds great. The service quality is excellent and the car will make you happy.

Main issues with this car are water pump leaks, belt slip noise when shifting at red line in manual and sport ( no fix), audible tick valve tick at idle, AND......thats about it. Only the fist can be fixed. The other 2 are just character flaws. I have done 8 track days in 16 months and the only issue I have had is a squeaky seat that needed to have the base tightened. LOL Bullet proof is an understatement . You can really have your cake and eat it oo. Track car with 2 baby seats in the back , luxury car, and DD.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Is there anyway to test the transmission during a test drive to see if it has any tail table signs of issues?

Look for shift hang in sport mode. If it does this, more than likely, the fluid is a little low. Just add more fluid and it should be good to go (lobuxracer could chime in on this if he's around). These transmissions are extremely durable. As with any higher end car, check the service history.

Make sure it has had all its maintenance done at 111k . There should have changed spark plugs , check brakes to see the wear . If it has 111k miles it's probably selling low 20s . But don't be fooled by low price if you have to change plugs brakes or buy tires and other maintenance that have not been performed can easily add up too 2 or 3 thousand. I know I'm probably exaggerating on but check make sure it checks out .

So water pump and rear sub were replaced by the dealer around 50k. Plugs were changed at 67k and front odd were just replaced.

bought my 08 used w/ 80k miles and no problems at all. bought it cause my wife and i recently had our first kid and needed a 4dr. no way was i getting a van. lol

after seeing all the track guys rave about the reliability at the track, i'm thinking of tracking the isf too along w/ my rsx-s

the valve tick did get to me at first when i first heard it while i was in a drive-thru.
