Has anyone had any success mounting an air vent on the left air vent near the door? That seems like a tight spot, but perfect for the minimalist look if it works out.

I'm quite fond of the iOttie products...particularly their 1 touch stuff. Phone can be inserted and removed from holder with one hand.
I typically mount mine to the left of the wheel. That way, if needed, I can touch the screen with a minimal reach from the wheel. It works rather well.

Just curious, but what phone mounts if any are you guys using in your IS-F/2IS? I use a ProClip mount for my Prius which I love as it is mounted in the PERFECT spot. I've searched around the forums and hadn't seen anything about this topic so I'm hoping to see some good recommendations! I do NOT want a windshield mount or a mount
Here's a video I did on using the mount in the ES350 and the IS-F. It starts with an intro to the mount and then moves to the ES. The IS-F starts at about 8:00

I don't know if it's mentioned earlier, but I use the Pitaka magnetic Qi mount. I have the CD mount, which didn't really put it in a good area, and our CD slot isn't straight across. I replaced that one with the vent mount, which I like a lot more. I drive ~50 miles each way to work and it doesn't bounce much and works great for charging and using Waze the whole way.

Resurrection time. I plan to mount an extra device for constant data streaming via OBD fusion, and I’d like to mount a phone holder for my current phone. Please post your phone mounts and links to the holders that you are using.

^^^^No need to resurrect - Go back and look at Post #77 above. IMHO, the Kuda mount is the perfect mount for the 2nd generation IS. Pro Clip also makes a mount, but I like the Kuda better for the IS application.

Note I am using a Pro Clip mount in my LC because Kuda does not make a mount for the LC. However I am using a Kuda phone holder with the Pro Clip.
I also use OBD Fusion and refer to my screen gauges while driving.

ProClip Smartphone Mount
I have the ProClip 833849 mount Lou linked above, which is marketed for the automatic-equipped 2G IS and clips onto the right/passenger side of the center console near the shift lever. I like this arrangement more than the A-pillar types or the Kenu Airframe vent types. (I have an Airframe and use it on rental cars, but personally don't feel it is a good long-term solution for heavy phones experiencing lateral g loads in a car with vents I really care about.)
Like the other ProClip products I have used, this one seems to be high-quality and cleverly designed. My mobile information appliance is 3.25in wide with Otterbox case, so that only leaves ~1.75in of clearance to the shift lever when moving through the gate from P to R. Skinned my knuckles a couple times before adapting to grabbing the shifter with fingers instead palming it with a meaty paw. There is more clearance for the N-D-M gates due to the shift pattern.
The phone holder frame mounts to the base on ball-joint type arrangement, such that you can tighten it down to lock in place or leave slightly loose to allow rotation. I leave it slightly loose so that I can rotate it towards me when in use and away when not.
The phone holder frame does protrude a bit into the passenger seat's legroom, so a kind word of advice to larger or less coordinated passengers prior to entry is prudent, especially for larger phones.
The base clips under the console trim at the bottom, and both clips and tapes onto the console ridge at the top. The tape strip is discrete and does not show when installed.
I have removed the ashtray and cigarette lighter, and run a short (8in?) USB connector from the cigarette lighter power adapter to the phone. Both cord and adapter stow neatly out of sight under the sliding door when not in use, more convenient (in my perspective) than leaving a connector snaking back to the power or data ports under the center armrest.

Update: Just installed the GROM VLINE V2. I love it and now no more phone holders needed and no wires in sight. I ran my USB to lighting cable into the arm rest. Everything works perfectly and I'm really enjoying Apple CarPlay. It's my first experience with it and I'm grateful I can utilize it on my 14 year old IS-F.
