The only thing major for the 60k service is spark plugs, brake fuild flush and depending on which year you have differential service.

I would get the spark plugs and differential service done in the very near future, brake fuild change should be done every 3 years so i think you can wait till next year usless you track your car.

The '08s also have a valve lash inspection in their service schedule. Not sure when they dropped this, but none of the dealers do it regardless. Too much of a PITA and odds are tiny there is something wrong.

What about "forcing" the dealer to do a trans fluid service? I know they are "world class, sealed systems" but this makes me very nervous. I've read thru a couple threads on this, but still not sure on what to do regarding this.

What to do? Pretty simple - sample, test, and determine when it's time to dump the OEM load and replace it with fresh.

The bad news is, it's pretty likely the clutches will be pretty well worn out when the fluid looks bad, so no matter how you slice it, you're looking at a rebuild at the very least.

Lobux - So what you're saying is, unless you've beat the hell out of your transmission to where it needs a rebuild, there shouldn't be any reason why the fluid would be bad or need to be replaced.

Pretty much. I've sent a sample in for testing from Blackstone and got a thumbs up for continuing to run the same fluid. I don't abuse my drivetrain though. I use it hard, but never cold and I avoid the kind of driving known to create high shock levels.

It certainly is possible to beat the crap out of it and get it to fail early, but I doubt fluid changes would help service life if you are doing this. If you are still concerned about it, take a sample and send it to Blackstone (or another oil analysis lab) so you can know when this service is needed. I have a suspicion the oil and the clutches will wear out at the same time which is why they call it a lifetime fill. The wife's Scion tC has the same fluid in it, and she's approaching 200k miles without a change or even a need to add any fluid. I'm not confident changing the fluid will extend the service life on that car either.

I think I'm just going to stop worrying about the ATF. I have 5 yrs 2 mo. Left on ext. warr. I don't track it, or abuse it, though I drive spiritedly. I also drive less than 5-6k mi per yr and have only 59.5k miles. Thx.
