Question What are the holes under the OEM trunk Spoiler

Now I've tried to find this in old threads but haven't managed to find any answers.

What exactly goes into the holes under the OEM trunk Spoiler?

I'm planning to install an OEM CF spoiler and want to know do I need any sort of screws or push-tabs to hold the Spoiler to the trunk?

or are the holes pictures below just left open when installing the OEM spoiler?

digger08 I hope you don't mind I used your pictures from here---> https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...er-today.htmlv

The taps are either on the trunk already or stuck to the stock spoiler when you removed it. So place all the taps back when you install your carbon one. Everything should snap in just fine.

There are metal tabs on the spoiler that clip into these holes.

I would suggest putting painters tape down around the spoiler and using some fishing line to break the adhesive while you wear some leather gloves and saw back and forth.

The 5 center ones are pop in locking tabs... The two on the outer edges are threaded bolts..

Also, as mentioned there is narrow double sided tape around it all.

The new OEM CF MY14 spoiler will come with everything ready to install..
You just end up reusing the two nuts you remove..

You will also have to properly remove and clean the old tape adhesive on the trunk..

Thanks for the feedback guys,

So the two metal tabs, will they simply pop out as I pull the oem spoiler off the body? or do I have to unscrew them somehow from inside the trunk?

Also would I need any additional screws? or can I simply re-use the original ones?

and Mrd916, I don't have the 2014 CF spoiler, I bought mine from a member here who had his done by Robson Design, didn't want to post pics until I actually install it (which will probably be 3 weeks or so) but here's a quick peak:

^^ Well that all depends on how or what they give you to mount it.... Since its an aftermarket piece..

Again there are 5 that pop off (upward) and two threaded bolts on the ends.. Molded into the spoiler.
The two nuts will unscrew from inside the trunk once all the carpet padding is removed.

Thanks for the pictures and explanation Joe, ok so I understand that the two nuts will unscrew from inside the trunk, but from the picture above I can see there is a screw in the middle of the spoiler (highlighted below in grey):

Is this also removed from inside the trunk liner?

My CF spoiler never came with any screws or nuts, just holes at the bottom where these screws and nuts are supposed to fit in. So are the OEM nuts and screws reusable? or are they just a one time use kind of thing?

That's not a screw its a pop clip.......just yank up on it and it will pop out......not removed from inside the trunk liner

No problem...here is a cleaner picture.

For the open holes I used vinyl (the kind you cover your roof with) and covered them to prevent water infiltration, the other grommets are rubber and will not leak, so I left them alone. I then sealed the replacement spoiler (just in case) to prevent any leaking. So far tight as a drum

My replacement spoiler used none of the existing holes and grommets.

Well you can find all the pics of my build at the bottom of my mods list or go to page 3 here --> https://www.clublexus.com/forums/bui...f-build-3.html

There aren't many pics of the spoiler itself but there are a few. the Robson design spoiler did not have any clips so it is held on only with some 3M tape.

Strange about the clips. Mine is marked toyota underneath and it has space for the clips
