Default What is the best way to Dyno our cars?

Just did my first ever dyno run, but the guy had never done an ISF before. So, the readings were not great and the graphs were worthless. I told him about what I remembered from reading the board, but I need the exacts, if you guys can help me out.

The guy wasn't sure where to place the cables b/c we were having trouble getting readings for torque. The guy knew where to place the cables, but the computer just didn't seem to read it. Can one of you post a pic of where exactly to hook up? Also, what gears to run in?

FWIW, bone stock put out 341whp and 338 ftlb in 4th gear. 5th gear run just under that. But, I'd really like a clean run and the guy said he'd do the next one for free. TIA everyone.

BTW, this was done on a mobile dyno at the Leander Cars and Coffee meet this morning. When the guy first started, it was kind of like "meh". But when the 2nd intake opened up and she came to life, everyone around perked up like "oh ****, that thing's for real". It was funny to see some of the faces.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that those numbers aren't that bad.. they seem to be average numbers put down at the wheels.. do you have any performance modifications?

Edit: I just read that it is bone stock. I'd have to say you're putting down average rear-wheel numbers in this case.

You should do the pedal dance to completely turn on trac/VSC. Turn off A/C and do the pulls in 6th gear to get a 1:1 ratio. So your numbers are a bit off from doing 5th gear pulIs. I put down 360hp & 317tq with an intake on a dynojet. All dynos are different one, and two there are different kinds of dynos... Everything comes into play. They are more a tool for watching engine changes than anything.

So have the guy run the peak in 6th gear? Is that right?

Only do all motor passes in 6th gear. Hitting the speed limiter with Nitrous is a big NONO as it will cause instant detonation.

Thanks Slay.
Can any of you gurus take pic(s) of which wires to hook up to for proper readings? The guy from this weekend was having troubles. He mentioned something about "waste" something-or-rather that may stem from the spark plugs?

Any of that sound familiar? A bunch of you guys have done dynos, and I've never seen/heard of any problems with readings.

Great thread for first time dyno-ers like me. I want to dyno my muffler/cat delete and see my gains (if any). Would be awesome if it was as much as those with full exhaust systems.

Dont have any pics, but im thinking the process should have been straight forward. Ive never actually hooked the car up on the dyno, but it always seemed easy watching the guys do it. Dont know too much about "waste" when on the dyno, but ill ask some knowledgeable people and get back to you.

Yea I've Never had anyone have a problem hooking mine up to a dyno. Depending on the dyno your HP numbers will be different. 6th is the "1-1" ratio, but my car ran just as hard in 5th, very similar #'s
