Those are sad pictures. I'm not sure if a warranty will cover that because it was obviously the drivers fault unless they can prove the car manfunctioned lol

Why do u say it is drivers fault? It is impossible to overrew with stock cpu...so what else, can be done wrong by driver, that could blow an engine?

If it's manual (as in stick-shift), how can u not over-rev, especially IF you misshift?

Well maybe the BMW manuals are different...

if you mean that, it is very easy to put lower gear in a drag race, then it yes, you could say that, but from my experience, it is more likely to misshift in track, than in drag race..

Another thing is, that luckily this time it was all filmed from inside, so it is seen that there was no missshifting...it just started to loose power at 3 gear and cloud of smoke apeared...after how it looks, u see in pics...

it is interesting, if it is just a coinsidence, or "m" engines are not realible...

udate from BMW dealer: Piston "went" out. Why? Still no answer.

P.S. this M3 is with expired warranty, because of its age, that is 4 years now. But there is hope, that not modified engine, that is beeing taken care of (and it is know for BMW dealership), should not have this kind of engine blow..

Glad to hear that the engine is being repaired. The pistons and rods shouldn't fail in any car.
