break in is more about making sure you vary the operation of the motor than just taking it easy. also, letting the motor see vacuum often is helpful. allowing the car to decelerate in gear will accomplish this.

I always use the 1,000 mile rule for my own personal cars. I feel its important that the seals seat properly. Plus none of my cars have ever had oil seepage issues at the valve cover gaskets during the time i've kept the car.

contrary to what you all have done. i had mine doing well over 200kph @ wide open throttle within the first 100km of its life. i drove it 250km home from the dealership. i varied my speed from cruising at the speed limit to cruising @ 150kph, to cruising @ 200kph.

everything works just fine.

edit: when i said "you all" i meant most.

IMO you should break your car in hard for 500 miles. After that period, change the oil to a full synthetic and you should be fine. Every engineer buddy i have says that driving it like you stole it is best.

I just bought mine yesterday and the salesperson and service said there is no break in period anymore on the ISF.....? I've always used the 1000 mile rule as well, but it seems like a lot of companies are going away with that. I just like to switch up the speed and rpms until at least 1000 miles, not going above 3500 rpms

Just curious, what page of the manual does it state the 600 miles?
