He has very tight connections with Lexus and tried everything under the sun to get the car to work right. He was ready to get rid of it at the first opportunity.

He was so pissed off about it, he decided not to spend the money on Mobil 1, and just put the oil in the picture above in the engine. All the problems stopped. The engine ran predictably and with excellent power.

I don't believe in magic oil. But I do believe my friend (we've known each other more than 20 years and met through a car connection). It would seem this particular oil works better with the VVTi oil control valves than Mobil 1. I have no explanation why, nor do I have any data other than his experience to back it up.

I've been wondering if the guys experiencing the unusual ticking with the 2UR-GSE would have a similar experience. I've also wondered if this oil might "cure" the start up noise in the 2GR-FSEs. Certainly food for thought.

^^I just use the basic dino oil - Mobil 5w30 (Clean 5,000)

Walmart has the 5qt jugs ready to go for like $12 bucks each..

It didn't come with synthetic from the factory

My wife has the 2GR-FE in her ES350. She had the ticking noise on startup when the car was new. When I changed her oil at 5K miles to Pennzoil Platinum 10w30, the ticking noise stopped, and has not reappeared. I surmised it had to do with the change in oil weight.

I use the normal Mobil 1 Synthetic 5w30, change oil every 3000 miles (more so because I like tinkering with cars... and not much to tinker with an F)

Purchase it at Wal-Mart in a 5 Quart Jug, for $23! Use the Factory Lexus Oil Filter's.

I wouldn't call it a ticking noise. I'd call it all hell breaking loose for about 5 seconds. If it were just a tick, I'd probably still have my 350. It's not. It sounds like something is disintegrating rapidly when it happens.

Thanks for all the help. Does anyone here use redline 5w30? I had an 06 volvo s60R that i used redline in and it seemed to work pretty well. I was curious if there were any redline oil fans here.

Oh yea i picked up my isf a few days ago. And im freaken in love with it already. The car is amazing and i just cant get over the sound of it when you step on it and it flipping threw gears.

thanks

I run Red Line 10w-30 in the Supra. It's got over 150k on it, and it's had Red Line since 32k miles. It made over 300 rwhp at 18psi boost using stock twins on a Dyno Dynamics just recently.

My only complaint with RL is availability. Mobil 1 is available at Wal-Mart. Red Line is not. If you're far from home and you need oil, it's a PITA.

I love Redline Oil, but in this application I think it is overkill. I'm running Mobil 1 5W-30 from Costco and am happy with it. I ran Redline in my Honda S2000 but that is because it had a 9,000 rpm redline.

I'm changing at 5,000miles, probably premature for Mobil 1 but gives me piece of mind and I'm too lazy to a UOA.

Castrol Syntec 5W30. Syntec has been shown to be the best for wear on all my previous cars so sticking to it.
