was it already discussed ? forgive me if so, but why can one not just swap ecus from JDM spec into US spec? Is there additional emissions related crap on the US ISF that the JDM unit would not work with etc?

Sort of. Toyota doesn't make pin and connector compatible ECMs for different markets. They've been doing this for a very long time. Finding parts that you can swap between USDM and JDM can be a real feat for the entire Scion/Toyota/Lexus line up.

could you use/replace with an entire JDM spec harness , or are some sensors different etc?

Not sure. Josephdoc had Blitz do their supercharger to his US spec IS350. It may very well have required exactly this to work but I don't have access to documentation for the JDM, so I can't say for sure.

I do know the Supra's 2JZ-GTE in Japan was not in any way compatible with the US version because the US version uses MAF and the JDM version uses MAP.

If my experience with JDM vs. USDM turbos is anything to go by, there's undoubtedly enough difference to make converting it very costly.
