the glass was billed out at $996, labor was $100, there was a few parts, tape and a new seal ($24) and the rest was tax.

look for windshield protection/ warranty policies cost about 200-300 bucks and replace them due to cracks etc for 3-5 years .

That's what comprehensive insurance coverage is for. It's pointless to have a secondary coverage for something you're already paying an annual premium on.
