This is in Santa Clara California, a city 40 miles south of San Francisco. The dealer was boasting that they are the largest northern California Lexus dealership.

Oh I forgot to mention one more thing, even though I am not sure of how reliable the source of the information is: the dealer was telling me that he anticipates that the IS-F will pretty much come with all the options almost standard, i.e. expect something along the lines of the luxury package; Nav, ML... etc only and no lesser packages, but he still proceeded with taking my preferences as far as color and options. I doubt he knew whether that made a difference or not but it was anyone's guess at the time...

I got a question. Lets say that I am 3rd on the waiting list and my car arrives. How do I know that the dealer will call me and not the next guy on the list for whatever reason.

Sorry to burst your dream, but the IS-F won't be remotely as fast as a late model E55. Sure the E55 only have about 40~50 more HP, but since it is on boost, it makes 516 lb-ft of torque @ 2500 rpm. The IS-F will only have 380 lb-ft or so at a lot higher in the rpm range. The E55 have at least 130 lb-ft of torque advantage.

E55:
0-60: 4.2~4.4
1/4: 12.4@116mph

IS-F:
0-60: 4.5~4.7
1/4: 12.8@111mph

The IS-F will only be fast enough to see the taillights of the E55 at the end of the 1/4 mile.

The IS-F will smoke all last generation E55, 02' and older model.

The 03'+ E55 not only have a 0.5L bigger V8, it is also on boost, it is a seriously fast car, it take a late model Porsche 911 Turbo to smoke it.

The E63 is actually a slower car off the line then the E55 because it is not on boost, it has less torque. The IS-F might have a chance of keeping up with a E63 up to about 60 mph or so, because the E63 is a few hundreds lbs heavier then the IS-F.

E55/E63 is one whole class/league higher then the IS-F. A C55 is a more appropriate car to compare the IS-F with.

The more information that is revealed (more concrete dates, options, ETA, etc), the more information you will find out. I am sure you will hear from them soon, especially when you hear something more from Lexus about the IS-F.

What does engine torque have to do with acceleration on disparate platforms? You know nothing about how these cars will accelerate from the peak engine torque ratings. Nothing at all. Especially with an 8 speed gearbox. The IS-F might very well come off the line like a scalded ape because the gearing is different and better oriented towards 1/4 mile acceleration. We have NO IDEA yet how the car will accelerate.

thanks for the reply. what I meant is that will the dealer honor the waiting list and call the customers in numerical order. Example: The guy on the 10th waiting list is a friend of the manager may get the first call. How do we know if the dealer really honor that waiting list.

if i was a dealer and seeing how people are already putting deposits on a car that very little is known about, pricing is still rumored, and no set production #, i would fleece the people on the wait list.

With Lexus, the most you have to pay is MSPR. And the most you will get discount for this car within a year from debut date is 1000$.

Just my opinion, i think 500$ deposit is nothing to lose to be the first one on the block.

As far as I know, it's against Lexus' policy for the dealers to add mark ups.

Correct me if I am wrong.

From what I was told by my salesman when I bought my IS, Lexus will not allow dealers to mark their cars up.

Yeah, I think they have different policy.

I remember FJ having mark up when it comes out.
