question about small rear tail light
Hey Flip,
Excellent review and video. I've been reading your posts since 2005. I purchased my IS350 (one of the first in the Mid-West with ML) back in October 2005 and just love it. Now after going to Detroit and reading every single post about the IS-F, I can't wait to drive it and most likely buy it (depending on final price with options).
Anyway, my question is regarding the small read brake light inside the car on the rear deck. On my IS it's on the deck, on the IS-F it's raised, most likely due to the spoiler. It would be harder to see if it was not raised. I noticed something underneath the light... a sensor of some type. Any guesses?
Again, thanks for all the great information from you and everyone else.

If the G means a 23 degree included valve angle like it has in the past, I'll be disappointed. I prefer the narrow valve angles the F heads have, and they almost always have better port geometry than the G heads. The cutaways I've seen of the 2GR-FSE have really beautiful straight ports and tight combustion chambers. I hope the 2UR-GSE is more like the 2GR-FSE than a 4A-GE or 3S-GTE.
BTW, for all the guys who think Yamaha doing the heads is something new - Yamaha has been doing performance heads for Toyota for decades.

Historically, G heads on Toyota engines have meant fuel thirsty engines with higher emissions.
But we know the IS-F will be a ULEV-II vehicle, and likely will get good fuel economy. It will be interesting to see the 2UR-GSE achieve both high performance and good emissions/fuel economy. Also, the 2UR-GSE retains the dual fuel injection system. In other words, the 2UR-GSE is the first Toyota motor ever to use G heads together with a direct injection system. My guess is that compared with the 2UR-FSE, 1UR-FSE, or 2GR-FSE, the 2UR-GSE will have higher performance direct injectors, possibly mounted at a different angle than the F motors.
