I'm thinking about replacing the grille with an F-Sport version which is so much nicer than the standard one. The IS-C F-Sport was never brought into the UK and neither was the 350.
Does anyone have a part number for the F-Sport grille and any knowledge whether it is a straightforward replacement?
The only grille Lexus sold that would fit your car was the Lexus USA special F-Sport special edition grille. Part number is PTR54-53100. Beware that this grille will not fit if your car is equipped with the Pre-Collision System.

There are 5 shapes of grille used for the 2nd generation IS. The types are not interchangeable, only the variants of the same type:
Type 1: 2006-2008 IS2xx/3xx
Type 2: 2008-2014 IS F
Type 3: 2009-2010 IS2xx/3xx Sedan
Type 4: 2010-2015 IS C
Type 5: 2011-2013 IS2xx/3xx Sedan and 2013-2015 IS C F-Sport
Available variants:
Type 1, 3, 4, and 5 are only available in the conventional style.
Type 2 is only available in the mesh style.
Type 3 and 5 are available in the conventional style and the mesh style.
Type 4 only came from the factory in the conventional style, but Lexus USA offered a special edition with the "F" style grille I posted earlier.
All are available with PCS except the IS C special edition.
If you're looking to get the grille I posted earlier, you will likely need to order it from the USA, it is unlikely available at any dealers outside of North America.

So conclusion is that if I want to have a mesh-style grill for my 2011 IS-250C it has to be part number is PTR54-53100.
There is a specialist company in the UK dealing in genuine Lexus parts only. I put the part no. to them and they told me that it is available by special order on Japan at a cost of around US $400 equivalent. Does this sound right or should I buy on my next US vacation?
First off, Jeff, that was incredible information on the grilles! I was always wondering compatibility with the newer years for our cars.
Secondly, ~$400 is a fair price for that grille. It really transforms the car, and even though the price is a bit steep for the grille, it still turns heads!
You can check for used ones in your area; you might get lucky! The one from LexusPartsNow only includes the grille. It does not include the chrome surround, so you will have to use your stock one.
