Finally, The Waiting Is Over. But Was It Worth It?
Alright.
Here's an opinion from someone that was ready to trade in his sedan for the coupe...
I'm not that significantly moved by the design.
Part of it is that it's not that significantly different than the sedan.
Part of it is that I don't want to trade my car for the same car, but with the only difference being two doors and a convertible top option.
Part of it is that it is aesthetically polarizing. Some will find it handsome; some will find it unbalanced. Personally, I love the front end and back (which is similar to the sedan's distinctive features), but the profile did sacrifice L-Finesse congruity for the hardtop mechanics. The interior is clean; I do like the current interior of the 2IS.
Part of my concern is that (if and when) by the time the IS350 convertible arrives, the IS will be due for a redesign soon. As much as the convertible is new, its technology, design, and engine will be five years old; which can be rather "outdated" in today's fast-paced automotive market.
And then we also have to guess on price. Is the convertible option worth the premium from the sedan? If I had to guess a $5k difference, I think it will be fine. If it's nearer $10k, I think it will fail miserably.
So, my final verdict:
I'm going to trade my car and Special Order the THIRD GENERATION IS350 convertible if and when available.
I love my sedan. I love it as is. And to have a convertible option would be great here in SoCal, but ultimately not detrimental.
By the time the 2010 IS350 convertible is out, it would be like 2006 all over again -- a four-year throwback. I would rather progress to something that would be more technologically savvy and aesthetically fresh, such as when the Third Generation IS arrives.
So, for now, I'm gonna wait it out...
