I would not put too much weight on the salesman's speak there. I think eventually there will be an IS 460 or 500 and a coupe and convertible but I doubt they are iminent.

No big deal for me...I may be in the minority here, but I didn't want a coupe or convertible. The 4-door is exactly what I want!

I completely agree. The sedan is exactly what I was in the market for. Not only do I like the look of a well-designed 4-door more than a coupe, but I think the IS, both generations, was just meant to be a sedan.

I too agree that I would not be interested in a coupe. But, after looking at these photoshops, you might reconsider that the IS was just meant to be a sedan.

Coupe

Convertible

Sedan

Doesn't interest me either way. If I'm going to buy a convertible, it's going to be a sports car (i.e. S2000 or Miata, etc). If I wanted a coupe, it wouldn't be a body style that I think looks better with 4-doors anyway, ala the 2IS.

And the IS5XX or IS4XX, whatever the monster turns out to be, is going to be way beyond what I'm willing to pay for a car anyway.

The IS fits well as a sedan, a coupe version would look and feel too familiar to a G35.

According to the Lexus production timeline, the IS convertible should be coming out on January, 2007. The car should be very similar to the Lexus LF-C Concept car, a 2-door, 4 seater convertible. The starting price will be around $44,000.00 MSRP. I think the car will be a very nice looking ride... but only time will tell....

I agree as well. Save for a few exceptions, I never really liked 2 door vehicles with seating for 4. Its a pain to enter the rear, while the frontward passenger must always exit before anyone enters. Granted the IS doesn't have the best rear seating space, but at least the passengers can enter/exit independently. Give me one door per seat, and I'm good to go.

OMG! If I wanted a Scion tC I would have bought a Scion tC... I change my mind now. I'll keep the sedan!

I already heard people saying that the IS 350 has the lines of the scion tC... BLAH! that just downgrades my car a couple notches... comparing a POS tC to a IS...

Don't forget this quote from then-Lexus general manager Denny Clements in a 10/21/04 Automotive News article:

"Clements promises the IS 300 replacement will do a better job competing against the BMW 3 series and its 16 variants, which sell about 10,000 units a month.

'We'll have a sedan, coupe and convertible, all-wheel drive and a couple of engine choices,' Clements said. 'It's a huge opportunity. Right now the IS 300 has a cult following, but we could be doing 5,000 or 6,000 units a month.'"

I'm still waiting to see if a coupe (not convertible) is around the corner.
