Can anybody confirm if the IS500 can do this?
I don’t think my 2021 IS350 can lol

It sure can. Didn’t like how my old IS350 auto upshifted at redline even when in manual mode. Apparently new TLX Type S auto upshifts too.

It'll auto upshift first to second, but it can sit on the rev limiter in all the other gears

I cannot 100% confirm, but pretty sure yes. From the sound that one made, it really looked like it did.

The IS500 does not auto upshift from 1 to 2 in M. At least mine doesn’t

Have you really tried not shifting it at all in first at WOT? I did it couple times in manual mode and it always auto shifted to second gear after hitting the rev limiter.
That's has been discussed in another thread where we didn't like it because if you also shift it, you end up in third gear

Does yours auto shift before the redline or does it auto shift after bouncing at redline for a second?

In manual mode, if I go all the way with that last little bit of throttle, it will auto upshift right before redline so it won't bounce of the limiter 1st to 2nd.

what happens if you don’t go all the way with the throttle?

Same here. Honestly 1st & 2nd gear are only time I’ve experienced it bouncing off the limiter, timing shifts is easier in higher gears especially when transmission isn’t fully warmed up.

I don’t know what that last part of your statement means, but I agree it is easier to bounce off the limiter between 1 and 2 because my god these gears are tall. To bounce from 2 to 3 you would be going like 75-80mph I think.

Edit: exaggerating on the speed. I think it’s more like 65-70mph. In any case IMO it’s a speed that is too fast on public streets to appreciate the sound of the rev limiter, because a highway is too noisy.

Unpopular opinion, I’m not a fan of bouncing off the rev limiter. It means a loss of power and momentum; so if I’m revving it full out, there’s most likely a race happening. 😈

100% agree. Every time I’ve bounced off it’s been due to manually shifting a bit too late. When the transmission is good & warm can click the paddle around 7000rpm and get a proper redline shift from 1st to 2nd, but when it’s still somewhat cool seems like you have to initiate the same shift at ~6600 rpm to get it to shift right at 7300rpn.

Samesies.

I like that the car will spin the tires on the 1-2 shift when you get it just right at 7200-7300 rpm
I have never had my car auto upshift from 1-2 but I've never been late on that shift. If it isn't 100% safe to watch the RPM I will short shift 1-2 instead. I have hit the Rev limiter in other gears, but never lit it sit there for a full second though. It's usually just a hair late so it might bounce 2-3 before the shift goes through. It will shift pretty damn hard from 2-3 as well when you're at max RPM.
