After a day of shooting photos up in the hills with the boys, I cranked the car back up and was greeted to a slew of warnings including the good ole "Parking support brake" malfunction.



The car drove as normal on the way home. I stopped at a gas station for a few minutes to fuel up and use the facilities, and when I turned the car back on again, the warnings were all gone.

I am planning to take it in to the dealer anyway, but a friend offered to read the codes for me while I was at a meet today. So we did, and it was P2111, Throttle Actuator Control System Stuck Open. I also got a comment from an IS 500 owner on a reel I made on IG saying the owner had a similar issue which turned out to be a bad throttle body.



Just wanted to see if anyone else had this happen in the same way. You can see in the photo it occurred just shy of 13,000 miles.

 

There are a bunch of posts in the facebook groups about this, looks like a couple of people have had the entire throttle body assembly replaced.

 

^^ Yup I have seen the same posts on the FB group regarding the Throttle-Body.

 

This happened to me when I inadvertently pulled the wrong fuse while the vehicle was on. I shut the car off for a bit and when I restarted, everything came up fine. I had the dealership check for codes when it was in for an oil change. They said everything was fine...

 

Well that is good. I haven't messed with any fuses yet.


I've got an appointment for tomorrow morning. Hopefully they can figure out what happened.

 

I just got a call from my service advisor, and he told me that they've decided to go ahead and replace the throttle body. He said it looked okay, but they have seen issues before where it still went bad even when nothing was obviously wrong with it. Good news is that they should be able to get that done in a day or so.

 

Good to hear. If you could post some details of the work order/documentation afterwards, that would be a good reference point for others. My car's service history shows a couple of trips to the dealer for CELs, I have a feeling this may be in my future as well

 

I wonder if they cleared the codes? If the codes have the same one, P2111, then it may be a good idea to check. I feel like they wouldn't have ignored this code, though.

 

I got the car back today, and the throttle body was replaced. Here's the relevant part of my invoice:



Drove it home and also on a short trip to the store after, and nothing seems off to me. I even got on it a little on the highway - I didn't feel or hear anything unusual. Hopefully the car is fine for now!

edit: From what they wrote, it seemed the code did pop back up when they test drove it? I don't recall the service advisor mentioning anything about the code returning. He stated that they simply wanted to prevent further issues by replacing the TB assembly and that the part they used is an updated part.

 

@arentz07 they more than likely had to word it that way for warranty replacement. claims managers for warranty work are really picky about notes so it can get paid

 

That thought crossed my mind this morning. Maybe they fudged that part to make the warranty claim easier.

 

Interesting that the part was revised. Wonder if us 2024 gang got that new part.
