Default Wanted: Emotional Support During Break-In

Hi, everyone. I'm 04gita, and I'm struggling.
I bought a white-on-red IS500 a couple weeks ago, and break-in is breaking me.
The revs... they're calling to me.
The stupid little devil on my shoulder demands that I see red (well, actually orange, on the tach, but close enough).
FSM give me the strength to make it to 621!
*sobbing* Tell me it's gonna be alright!

^^ It is going to be OK buddy, just hang in there. Here is what I propose, fly me down there, allow me to stay at your place and daily break in your IS 500 for you, I mean I have the exact same combo so I know how to do it right. When I am done, I'll pack my stuff and head home. All you gotta do is go pick up a few cases of bud light, kick back and relax and I'll do the break in for you (lol)

#1 - Our craft brew scene is way too good to let you drink Bud Light.
#2 - As a Canadian, I would indeed trust you to be properly kind to the car during break-in lol.

^^ I was actually poking fun with the beer - We have amazing craft beer spots here where I live too and TBH, makes the "run of the mill" typical beer very boring

My best advice is to just put miles on it. Go somewhere. It'll go by quicker that way. And also, you don't have to completely baby the car, either. Just avoid full throttle and don't sit at 2000 RPM on the highway for long periods of time - vary the speed.

After that, you can drive it however you like. 1000 km is not a ton of miles, though it may feel like it in this moment, compared to how many this car will likely see.

Also, I've gotta say, LOL to the thread title. And I am in agreement - you can afford an IS 500? The Bud Light needs to go.

Best beer I had was when I was in Toronto many years ago.

I'm not sure you want a bud-light drinking Canadian to break in your car. That's very out of character for them. I thought they only drink maple syrup and listen to Celine Dion. The smart ones listen to Rush.

I'm excited enough to hear the stock exhaust once I can rev it out. Pretty sure I'd be pitching a tent the entire time if I drove around with that exhaust.

That sounds insane! There's someone in our local club who has one, and I've heard it before... but wow, I forgot just how great it sounds.

I feel you pain. I purchased mine on 03/28/23. I had to wait 4 weeks for the PPF appointment. Picked up my car last week and just crossed 205 miles, of which 80 was put on today.I’m off tomorrow so I’ll be out driving all day again

Honestly, take a PTO day off work (if you can) and just go drive the whole day. I got +200 miles on the ODO doing that.

Best thing I did, along with hooligans like @macmaster did, was buy our IS500 from an out of area dealer. Not only did we avoid the markup annoyances but our cars were fully broken in by the time they got home.

My advice - immediate 621 mile road trip. Just be sure to go between 5th and 8th gears every 5-10 minutes to keep the engine RPMs varied on long highway stretches.

I'm in the same boat buddy. I'm at 600 km, and its getting annoying now. I try to vary the speed all the time and occasionally touch 4000 rpm, but it's taking forever. Also, keeping lots of distance to avoid having to do any hard, abrupt braking. Feels like a lion in a cage giving a few short roars just waiting to be unleashed.
