Official Incognito IS500 Thread
Quick question, does Lexus have different incognito colors? I asked because my car got some hail damage a few months ago. I had Lexus do all the repairs. 8K with of repairs. When I got the car back, I stored it as it wasn’t my daily. I went to the garage the other week and notice the hood paint didn’t match the fenders nor the bumper. I of course called them and return the car for them to correct the issue. I am waiting on them to call me back with why and how a mistake like that could happen. I am just wonder how such a mistake could have been made?

This is normal, and in your case, called a bad paint job.

Matching paint is becoming a bit of a lost art. It isn't as simple as just mixing paint. They have to control the environment and light, account for fading, get the flakes just right, blend on the car properly and so many other things. Sometimes a geezer's experienced eye will yield better results than a gen z'er reading a spectrophotometer in a shop. Actually caring and putting in the time makes a difference.I've had better luck in mom and pop shops than "certified" conveyor-belt type establishments.
I hope they improve on their first attempt. Good luck bud.
DaOne - as others have said, there is only 1 incognito colour but these have to be created (mixed) in a body shop. The problem with a single body panel being painted is that depending how old the car is and how exposed it has been to the element, they almost have to blend the paint to adjacent panels otherwise it will not match. The problem with a hood is you have 2 quarter panels and a bumper that joins it so it will almost require those panels to be re-sprayed through a gradual blending to make it work. Some shops are better than others sadly, but hopefully they can make it good for you. Keep us posted!
Also, any chance you can share a pic, I am curious to see if it is visible through a pic

I understand all of that but, this is a fairly new car with about 10,000 miles/PPF/and garaged….the paint matching should not be that far off…no blending will fix this!

this place is probably far from you, but i’d go here if i moved far from them. i’ve taken several vehicles to them and have not been disappointed once.
some people overlook this but painting the bumper (plastic) will be different from painting the hood and fenders (metal).
I know but that is more noticeable usually on white cars and I have seen plenty of Incognito IS 500 and the difference between the plastic and metal part is not that obvious - There is something wrong with this job IMO

The bumper and hood had PPF. The hail damage was suppose to be non paint repair, but I think when they put the car under their special lighting to see all the dents, they realized that they needed to paint the hood. They painted the hood and reapplied PPF. The bumper and side fenders were never touched. All was don’t at the Lexus dealer via Insurance claim via my provider. I am very much disappointed by both of them as this should have never been released to me in this shape. I just didn’t notice it when I picked up the car as the majority of the visible hail damage was in the trims and the trunk. All the trims were replaced and the trunk looks great. I didn’t know that they painted the hood until I noticed the color mismatch and questioned them.
