Default Black Chrome window trim issue

Anyone had trouble with it being very fragile when polishing/cleaning? I thought it would be much more durable, like anodizing or similar.

Hasn’t lexus used this “coating” before on F-sport models?

My detailer is doing paint correction/ceramic and says it came off super easy. He’s never seen anything like it. Lexus is ordering a replacement trim for him to inspect.

I didn't find a need to polish it. I wiped off water spots with a surface prep before applying all my coatings and they held up fine. They do seem to attract water spots though.

Are you saying your black chrome turned to regular chrome? Yikes!

Is that picture supposed to show black chrome or a de-blacked chrome? Double yikes.

Exactly!

“we always paint correct the trim also”

They thought I had applied an aftermarket coating…I was like NOPE!

Lesson learned, thanks for sharing! Sounds like the detailer owes you some new trim.

How did the detailer get the replacement part from Lexus so quickly? I thought these were in extreme shortage.

He may need to watch the install video of the guy who changed it out in his 350 LOL

Same thing is happening to my lower trim above the door handles. The black oxide coating is slowly fading away.

is there anything we can do to further protect the coating or correct the fading?

I’ll upload photos after work.

I think as our cars age, that trim will look like hell, guess I need to stop waxing that black trim. I do wax the gloss black plastic on the B pillar though with no issues.

On top of that the trim piece isn’t cheap either!

The price is to prevent 350 owners from trying to make their cars look like a 500. There is another thread on this somewhere. We all know that 500 owners can afford it, but 350 owners cannot, which is why we have the 500 in the first place and they only have the 350.

The trim is fading on mine along the lower edges of the front and rear windows on the driver's side. Passenger side is somehow fine. All I do is hand-wash my car and don't apply wax very often. So I have no idea what I "did wrong" if anything. I think I may bring it to my dealer's attention, too.

edit: You can see it in this photo pretty clearly, especially on the rear door.

edit 2: My best guess as to what happened is something during the body work my car had done. It was on the driver's side. It's very possible they messed up the trim during that process. Ugh. I didn't notice until months later.

edit 3: Yep. The first photo I can find of this issue is a random photo I took only a couple of days after getting my car back from the shop.
