IS500 will last for 4 model years
Interesting find @felixcat! The fact that we’re able to still talk about and experience the 2UR-GSE V8 in 2022, and the fact Lexus shares transmissions and engines across multiple platforms hints that anything is possible. Maybe it could be offered as a performance package of some sort haha.
I am sad for those who are waiting a few years to buy the IS500 thinking there will be significant changes. I just don't think it will happen. A long time ago on this thread, I posted an article about platforms. If you read the article, you will probably understand why there will be no significant changes to the current IS line. This current IS platform is good - but it is really old. I don't see Lexus spending any money on it. They didn't have to do much for the IS500. It is essentially a IS350 stretched a little in the front to accommodate the awesome 2UR engine, plus a few brake (and maybe suspension) parts borrowed from other F vehicles. If you like the 2UR in a sedan, this is it - as is.
The future is going to be boosted and electrified. That isn't necessarily a bad thing even for enthusiasts. Hybrid is not always the Prius type implementation. Pancake-style electric motors between the engine and transmission can be used to provide instantaneous torque boosts across the entire rev band. For future F and FSP cars, I see a range of 6 and 4 cylinder turbo engines with mild hybrid boosting. Better fuel economy, better responsiveness, but lacking that V8 sound.

The hybrid LC500h is only 0.2 seconds slower 0-60 compared to the V8 powered LC500 (same engine as the IS500), and has much better gas mileage . Not bad actually. Kinda warming up to the idea . Darn it. Now I have to think again about the IS500. LOL. Then again, the music of the V8......

My hope if the IS 500 hangs around for 4 years is if they'd offer a twin turbo I6 along side the V8. I'd even be willing to take the a ZF 10 AT if it meant better mileage with some added turbo.
