Default SC400 Power steering Solenoid

Hi, I have been working on my 1992 SC4's power steering, it was leaking all over the place. I have narrowed it down to two places left that are leaking. The first is the O ring on the hose that goes from the resivior to the pump. This hose goes into a metal clamp / bracket which has a little nipple with an O ring and plugs into the pump. I have found the part number for this in the forums and will order it. The second spot however I cant find the replacement part. The leak is huge and coming from where the solenoid attaches to the rack/pinion. I found that my O ring is completely missing which is why it is leaking so bad. I have looked all over the internet, went to the dealership and many other parts stores trying to track down this O ring. It is the bigger of the 2 O rings on the solenoid. Does anyone know where/how I can stop this leak by finding the right O ring to fit? Should I just try random O rings that seem close in fitment, or is there a way to track down this part number and find the size of the O ring or get it from the dealership?? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!!! I've been stuck on this for a few days

You'll need to source a generic O-ring which won't be hard most auto parts stores have a selection or can buy a set on Amazon.

....wait you need a seal for the steering rack? Maybe you can spot the seal here

Its sort of on the steering rack, not sure exactly. Here is a picture. The bigger o ring at the bottom of the solenoid is the one i need. The one in this picture i was just using to test fit a different o ring but that is the placement of the one i need.

I see this

44020A - RING, O(FOR POWER STEERING PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE)

90301-11009
says there are 3 of them? I'll let the SC experts chime in.

Hey @will987 - did you ever find the correct o-ring for the steering solenoid?

I may be dealing with the same issue.

Hi! If i remember right, I spent a little while researching and was never able to find the o ring. I looked over many diagrams and went to dealerships part departments as well. They didn’t have a part for it, but diagrams would show the o- ring. Mine was leaking pretty bad. I tried to get various o ring sets but in the end i just dried it off real good and put a layer of rtv gasket maker in the groove where the solenoid screws in. I made sure it was nice and tight and when i turned the car on later, my power steering was actually usable and i didn’t have to refill it all the time anymore. i stopped leaking from the solenoid all together, but still had a small leak related to the return house bracket mounting to the pump at an odd angle. I have since sold my sc 400 to get a e55 amg when i moved states, but i plan to get one again. I love the 1uz and sc chassis! Power steering was definitely my worst enemy with this car.
My rtv gasket withheld for the following months i still owned the car while drifting and driving almost daily.
That’s just what worked for me! I’m not sure gasket makers are meant to withstand the pressure of a p/s system but i would try it as a temporary fix.

If you use RTV it must be designed for transmission fluid

Thank you @will987 , I really appreciate it!

I’m still trying to understand the best way to get the solenoid off while the rack is still on the car.

You can see how things look on the rack. I squeezed the boot and it didn’t squish nor did any fluid come out so it had me thinking it might be the solenoid leaking instead.

I’m topping off the ATF about every two days to keep it working.

i removed my valve with removed wheel. it is difficult but possible. i checked my valve with problems with my PS (whining) but it was the alternator.. all lines changed, fluid changed, pump rebuild. not funny... i had the pressure lines removed from the rack, maybe gives this more space to remove the valve.
