Default 2014 IS350 Radio Head Unit Replacement Question

Hey everyone,

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I did a search and couldn't find my answer. I have a 2014 IS 350 AWD, and my radio head unit is blown. The dealer want's $2,200 (CAD) to replace it, plus an hour of labour ($125 I believe). Now I have a friend of mine who just bought a 2015 M4, and he wasn't happy not having Apple CarPlay on his car, so he bought a M4 2019 or 2022 head unit and put it in the car and now has Apple CarPlay and a better unit overall.

I was wondering if anyone knows if this is possible for my car? Are the harnesses/relays the same as a 2020 or new unit that offer more options? I have been looking in to other options as well (since they are less expensive), but prefer to keep the OEM style in the car if I can.

Any insight in to this would be greatly appreciated, thank you,

Hey Hermes, I have the exact same car and the same exact issue. My unit keeps rebooting. I was wondering if you ever found a solution to your problem.

Not sure about Hermes, but my headunit crapped the bed. I got it repaired for $1000CAD and working again. As for the apple car play, your best bet is to add a module which I believe crutchfield has that adds to the existing system. This is different from the aftermarket screens because it uses the stock screen and everything, it just piggys off the harness between the radio and headunit.

Thanks Hermes. However, without a working radio, no aftermarket screen will work. I have confirmed this from 4x4 shop in Canada.
