I recently purchased my 2014 IS350F sport and are just wondering about the sd card that is in the radio does this have to be updated . What is it used for.

 

It has the mapping database for the nav system. In theory, the data does need to be updated. If you take the card out and drive, for instance, I think the system won't work correctly. Maybe someone who has experience with that can chime in.

Or, you could have a dealership install them.
