Brand new lexus owner questions
I just bought a 2015 Lexus IS250. I believe it is a base model. Definitely not a Fsport. I have a laundry list of questions. This is my first car that isn't a total pos, so I want as much info as I can get! thanks in advance everyone!
Thanks for any help and sorry if I'm posting wrong. Glad to be part of the forum and so far I'm very impressed with my car. already thinking about snagging a sport model.
- My model is not an F sport but at some point would like to do a body kit but can only find ones that say "F sport only". Any body kits out there for me?
- I plan on getting my windshield replaced. OEM part installed is near 1K. non OEM is near 280$. Will I notice a difference and will it be worth the extra almost 700$?
- Can I remove the tint on my mirrors? I want my windows darker but am weary of not being able to use my mirrors afterwards. Any advice on darkness? I'd like for them to look black in pics.
- Car Fax says my car is RWD, however I am almost positive I'm getting power to the front wheels. AWD?
- Has anyone here ever replaced a seatbelt? My passenger seatbelt is fraying and has to be replaced. Am i over my head replacing it myself?
- Audio recommendations? My stock audio seems to be rattle slightly and it's one of my must fixes. Also, is that a subwoofer behind my backseat? If so that's pretty slick.
Thanks for any help and sorry if I'm posting wrong. Glad to be part of the forum and so far I'm very impressed with my car. already thinking about snagging a sport model.

Windshield: I don't think you have the Pre Collision Camera since its a 2015, so truthfully any windshield should be fine. Even with a PCS, a aftermarket quality windshield from a place like Safelite should work so long as you get it calibrated afterwards. I did it on a 2017 Corolla that had the system and it worked flawlessly.
AWD: The simple answer is check the badging. But the more effective answer is, do you have a noticeable hump in the footwell area of your driver's side? The hump is the transfer case for the AWD system, so if you have that then it is AWD. If you do not, it is RWD.

So for the body kit, I believe the reason they'd list it as "F Sport only" is because the front bumper of the F Sport models is different. So if you wanted a splitter or grille insert for instance, they'd have to be made specifically for the F Sport or base model. It is possible to swap the entire front clip of the car, as shown here: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ght=base+sport
On the AWD, I agree it's probably best to check for A) the badge on the trunk lid and B) the little hump in the driver's side footwell on the right hand side.
Here are the questions that I can answer:
1. My model is not an F sport but at some point would like to do a body kit but can only find ones that say "F sport only". Any body kits out there for me? Yes there are...Google NIA Auto Design. From a body kit perspective the only difference between the F Sport and Base is the front bumper. The sides and back are the same.
2. Car Fax says my car is RWD, however I am almost positive I'm getting power to the front wheels. AWD? In addition to the above suggestions, turn the front wheels all the way in either direction, then look behind the front wheels, if you see a driveshaft behind each wheel, you have AWD, if you don't, then it is RWD. I'd hate to think the CarFax made that big of a mistake though.
3. Has anyone here ever replaced a seatbelt? My passenger seatbelt is fraying and has to be replaced. Am i over my head replacing it myself? It really depends on your DIY skill level. Try searching some Youtube videos on how to replace it first to see if it's something you're comfortable with. It can be done with basic hand tools.
4. Also, is that a subwoofer behind my backseat? It's in the rear parcel shelf in the middle.
