It’s almost like you have to look for it in order to realize it. And you are correct in that there is no visible line. This is the same theory that @flipside909 had. From your experience with these vehicles, is the side mirror’s dimming very very light? It’s definitely not anything like the interior mirror. I feel like once I get tints I won’t even be able to notice the side dimming at all. Thanks in advance.
Depending on how it was tested the degree of dimming will vary.
If you use the tape over the sensor that will give you maximum dim, anything else will be subject to how much ambient light there is.

The light sensor for the mirror that faint spot in the upper center of the mirror. Shine your flashlight or light source directly on the spot. Covering the sensor defeats the purpose of dimming the mirror.

I just took this from a 2022 IS 500 F SPORT Performance Launch Edition. It appeared to also dim the driver and passenger side mirror too, but where I tested it was in a brightly lit garage area with natural light.

Thank you both for your help. I knew about the sensor in the front but I was unaware of the one in the back. So @Sasnuke trick of covering the sensor is what did it for me. The whole mirror dims, no visible edge. But it is worth noting that the EC on the side mirror is blueish, unlike the interior one which is green. And it is in fact only the driver’s side mirror. I appreciate the help of everyone who responded.

True, if you cover the sensor on the glass side of the mirror it doesn't help you check the dimming function, that's why you cover the sensor on the other side of the mirror, the one that faces the front of the vehicle...on the passenger side of the mirror.
This way the car thinks it pitch black out, so when you shine a light on the glass side of the mirror you get maximum dimming.

Glad you were able to confirm for yourself firsthand...always nice to see it for yourself to understand how it works.
