Default No front lower air dam...

--

Now I know that no one here has ever scraped over a curb and dinged their front bumper, or even the air dam below the bumper. Right? Right? Okay, so I did it. I somehow just cleared the curb with the bumper, but the air dam below it was sheared off completely such that when I get down and look up, there are no remnants at all. None. You can't even tell anything was there.

My first problem is that I cannot find the OEM part for a 2015 IS350c on any parts diagrams. The only thing I find are either "ground effects spoilers" which only stick out to the front, but don't extend down. My air dam was fiberglass and went back under the bumper and down several inches. I have seen some unclear photos of some rubbber strips about 2" high that would serve some purpose, mostly just to fill the open area under the bumper. Not in favor of them.

Does anyone else have the kind of air dam that goes back and then down, all under the bumper? Or was it all my imagination? I thought it was part of the bumper itself, but I can't find any anywhere.

What was it Ruth Buzzi used to say? "Never mind."

On more careful examination, I find that my memory of how the area under the front bumper used to look is not quite how it really was. The bumper (cover--as it's called) that is painted and in sight readily ends at a bottom edge that cuts down and back a couple of inches. From there on back is an unpainted, irregular panel (about 3' square) that covers the bottom of the radiator and front area of the motor. This plastic plate is called the engine undercover that protects engine parts from getting any road debris thrown up from the ground. Some folks have had this undercover get torn up by scraping on curbs and even had wind catch the torn front and rip the whole thing off.

However, the only actual air dams between the bumper and the undercover are small rubber ones on each side under the fog lights that are angled back for wind deflection. There is not, and never was, any separate air dam to channel air down/around the bottom of the car.
