Clicking noise from the trunk hinges - Ideas how to fix?
Dear Lexus Friends,
I already searched in the archive but could not find anyting matching. My Lexus 2019 IS300h makes some noise that drives me crazy by time. Because the whole car is so silent, this isolated one real is a showstopper.
It's like a clicking or cracking noise that comes from the rear of the car if it hits a pothole or twists over bumps. Especially when through park decks it happens all the time. First I thought the noise comes from the locks of the rear doors or trunk but it actually seems to come from the trunk hinge. Did anybody of you experience a clicking/cracking noise from that area and knows how to fix it?
The first time the dealer said he can't reproduce and obviously not really wanted to take care of the matter (German service mentality
). I wanna try again with next service but if anybody has an idea how to fix it before, that would be highly appreciated.
Best regards, Tim

If the sound only comes on when going over pothole or bumpy roads, it most probably is not coming from the hinges. My experience was it came from the rods holding the trunk to the hinges. Remove the cover from the top of the trunk and you will see the rods and it will converge to a black plastic piece holding the rods. There is a small amount of freeplay and when going over bumpy roads or when woofer thumps hard, that freeplay enables the rods to hit against the black plastic piece and hence, the noise. Tie a small bicycle hook / mini bungee cord to tense them up or slip a firm felt in the space and there will be no more noise. Refer to post #20 on the thread below. While you are at it, it doesn't hurt to spray some titanium grease at the hinges, since it's just there and it will silence any hinge creaking in the future.
