RR racing tune in Canada
This is what i got from their website.
Re-Selling RR Racing OBD Tunes
RR Racing tunes are sold for one specific car only. They cannot be used to tune multiple cars. However, our customers can resell our tunes following this procedure —
a. The stock file must be written to the ECU first (please select Write/Stock File).
b. The existing customer must contact us by emailing to service@rr-racing.com or calling 484-756-1777 to let us know that you want to sell your tune. Please provide the name you used buying the tune and device serial number (on the back of the MyGenius device, or on the Info screen of Powergate device).
c. We will email you the procedure to reset the device.
d. RR Racing has a tune transfer charge that can be calculated by taking the cost of a similar tune minus $250. The cost of transferring a tune to a new car for the same tune owner is $120 (the previous car must have been flashed to stock). Please note that RR Racing supports one transfer only. RR Racing can approve a second transfer depending on circumstances.
e. The new tune owner has to repeat the ID reading procedure, and then we will email the tune file to the new owner.

I checked out there website to see what it is they are offering.
Unfortunately they don't tell you specifically what they are going to be tuning...but all the associated costs for different packages are there.
It also appears that anytime you want to go back to stock you have to take the vehicle to them for a $100 flash back to stock.
Seems like they are big on providing the 'pop and bang' in their tune...which I get, it caters to a certain market of people, likely not the market on this thread though.
I also went to check out their Youtube videos of the vehicles that have been tuned...it was an endless parade of 15 second videos of 'pop and bang'.
I'm sure they do good work at M Force to tune vehicles, unfortunately the way they promote themselves with the 'pop and bang' everywhere you look doesn't inspire confidence.
They did have some dyno graphs on the site, so it looks like they are getting more power out of the vehicles, it would be nice if they provided info on more of that.
I realize for every car the tuning will be different, but I think that's where RR Racing sets themselves apart by telling you exactly what you're getting for 'that car'.
If anything I think it would be better to get the RR Racing tune and then take it to M-Force for even finer tuning based on your specific setup.

If I understand correctly, they are charging half the price of the tune ($250) as a fee, so that we can sell to someone else? So with that said, it means we will get back probably $100-150 max for the tune.
If you were selling the tune...say you had a 2014 IS350 and you were selling it to someone else with a 2014 IS350, then the transfer cost is the cost of their tune minus $250.
As the original tune owner, the only money you could recoup in the second scenario (selling the tune) would be whatever you charge the person buying it...if a tune for their car was $550...then you could charge anywhere from $0 - $300 before it equals the cost of them just buying it directly from RR Racing. So likely you could get mid range of that...around $150.
From what I gather, if the tune owner is transferring it to another car they own, it's $120...say you had a 2014 IS350 and then got a 2016 IS350...and wanted to move the tune from the 2014 to the 2016.

@JGO Do you have any personal experience with the M-Force tune that you can provide some feedback on?
It is worth it if you do not want to keep the tuning device and in return lower the overall cost.
So if you dont keep the device its only 549.99 - 150 = 400 usd
2nd person would be paying 150 (scanner) + 250 (tune) = 400 usd
What happens if the last person doesnt want to keep the scanner too? Would they have to eat the cost of the scanner or could they give it back to rr racing?

For the 2014-2016 vehicles...when you buy the tune you get the My Genius Tool with it...you get to keep the tool as part of the tune cost. So $549.99 gets you the whole package to keep for as long as you want.
Returning the device is not part of the overall transaction...you are supposed to keep it...likely the device is not that expensive.
For the 2017+, it's a different device...they don't state the device name of the site (I don't think), but from looking around I think it's a Powergate Tuner.
With the 2017+, the $549.99 is the cost of the tune...there is an additional $500 for the renting of the Powergate Tuner.
You can keep the Tuner, but they also keep the $500.
You can return the Tuner, and get the $500 back.
Depends which specific year range we are talking about.

The bugger is for the 2027, because $500 is a lot for a flashing device, and if I wanna keep it (to be able to flash back to stock), then it's really as if am paying $1100 for the tune. What if u wanna take it for waranty work? What if I wanna sell the car and put it back to stock? Etc.

That's why imo, rr racing won't really lower the up to 2016 tune price, unless, everyone uses the same physical my genius d'ongle to flash all their tunes. I would assume that the price of the mygenuis is around $200-250 from what I have seen online.

Also, if they update the tune, you get the update free as the owner of the original tune...but them you would need the tuner to update it.
I wonder what the cost is to ship the device round trip.
It would seem the My Genius Tool just needs to be reset for the next user.
The Powergate Tuner I'm not sure if a reset is needed or not. Assuming that is even the tuner they are using, since I haven't confirmed that 100%.

They can ship you the tool any time you want to flash the ECU, but then there's a shipping cost (round trip) each time.

Not cheap, and not practical
8 times is a lot when you think about it.
Let's say you take your car in for an oil change/routine maintenance twice a year...the 8 times of shipping would cover you for 4 years...providing you flashed it each time...which for oil changes and routine maintenance would not be necessary since they are not even hooking up the Techstream.
Given Toyota reliability, if you had to take it in for an issue where they did need to use the Techstream, say a check engine light, then you could ship the tool, flash the ECU, let the code reset, let the dealer fix it, them flash it after back to the tune and return the tool.
Might be worth it to just ship it. How many times do you expect the check engine light to come on during the warranty period.
