Default Transmission or Boost?

I honestly can’t tell if this is normal or not. When I am accelerating the RPM’s fluctuate so if I’m in 6th gear the needle moves up but then goes down for no reason without a shift. What do you guys think? Transmission issue or normal? Or is it boost issues.

Have you tried using the Gear Position display while doing this test? If there's no shift I'd say the torque converter is doing some magic. I see something similar on my IS 300 AWD (which doesn't even have a turbo).

Yeah that’s how I know it isn’t shifting and the RPMs slip down. It’s a bit frustrating because unless I go almost full WOT, I get that “slippage”.

Without being in the car with you to see what your feet are doing, it seems pretty normal.
As the torque converter goes from unlocked, to partial lock, to full lockup , the RPM will drop like in the video.
It's not a big enough drop to look like a shift, but depending on conditions, it could be 1000RPM, give or take.
And with WOT it won't go into lockup...lockup will only occur when you're basically cruising...speed and load are consistent, then the converter goes into lockup.

nit-pick: The torque converter will, however, lock up when you are in M shift mode. So if the behavior bothers you, just select the gears yourself.

Nice. Yeah without seeing where the accelerator pedal is, I am going to guess that's just the transmission allowing some slush to occur. Mine will do the same thing, especially if I am cruising at lower speeds. It'll stay in 5th gear and rev up a little rather than downshifting to 4th.

Yeah it happens when I’m accelerating a little. It’s a little frustrating. I really don’t remember this happening the first year or so I’ve had the car lol.

So it would seem I do have the turbo surge issue as my boost gauge when accelerating is going nuts. I made an appointment to get it fixed under warranty. We will see what happens. Gotta remove my JB4 now before taking it in lol.

Seems normal, mine does it as well while cruising, this was also normal with another turbo car I owned years ago, also an automatic.

Once I get the boost regulator and hose replaced I’ll do some tests and see how it performs.

So I got the regulator and hose replaced under the TSB for the turbo surge. Car is performing like normal again. Picture is of the old parts. The new hose is bigger and apparently that helps the regulator last longer.

Nice!
Haven't had an issue after I installed the 2018 part.
Although the rpm dip is slightly there.
Got a part number for the hose?

What’s the part # for the 2018 part? I just ordered a new regulator as well but I think I might have got the old one

Same number as this old one. Keep in mind my Lexus is a 2018 so apparently I already had the new valve lol. It’s 25819-0W010.
