Is this rust normal for a 5 months old IS300 AWD?
Mine has had it at 22k miles, so normal, at least for North East vehicles that see snow/salt. I try to hose down the suspension during each car wash and minimize driving immediately after roads were salted.
For one winter in Ontario that's normal.
You can look into something like Rust Check if you want to extend the body life of the vehicle.
Thorough washing like TOPENDMS noted is also a good idea.

Very normal. After 4 years in the NE, I finally broke down and had the car (2014 IS350 F Sport) undercoated at Zeibart...it had quiet a bit of rust already. The factory coating is moderately decent (not excellent) from the factory for our cars. I had an infiniti and it nearly rusted through in 10 years. What is interesting is that Lexus does not recommend undercoating.
$500 buys me immense peace of mind since I keep my cars for ~15 years on average (~250-300K miles).

I swear by krown/rust check rust proofing. I had a 2003 Acura EL that was krowned annually and the car was rust free for 15 years before my dad wrote it off. 100% rust free! Not even the typical Honda Cancer that develops between rear 1/4 panels bumper. Keep in mind I drive in harsh winter environments where road salt is used in abundance during winter. Only downside is that it gets messy and swells rubber/weather seals. I krown my IS and CSX annually and do not expect to see any rust for the life of the car.
