Check Engine Light: P013A
Hello everyone,
Last week my check engine light came on. The car wasn't leaking any fluids, no change at all to the engine or transmission. To say the least, the driving conditions were completely unchanged.
Scanner gave back the code P013A, bank 1 sensor 2 slow response. My local mechanic said its probably just a bad sensor, but he cleared the code and said if it came back, I could just buy the sensor and he'd replace it for me.
The light came back for 3 days. Then magically turned off on its own for 2 days now.
The car still drives like it did from day one.
Does anyone know why this code could be triggered, then seemingly disappear all on its own?
The one time I don't use Shell gas I get a code lol.
Thanks!

The code is for the Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2.
The ECM runs a monitor on the Oxygen sensors. When the sensor fails the monitor check, the light comes on.
If it should run the test again and the sensor passes, then the light may go out.
It's also possible the light came on for another code unrelated to the P013A, and cleared itself after it's monitor ran.
The P013A could have been triggered for a few different reasons...the sensor being defective as one of them.

Thanks, Sasnuke.
I guess I'm just a little confused as to why it can fail the test, then pass it again. What can cause a failure then without any changes, correct itself?

Could be related to fuel. It seemed you filled up with something other than your regular Shell station.

Just a quick update for everyone, my dealer good-willed the O2 sensor for me.
They checked for exhaust leaks and other potential causes. All that needed to be done was swap out the sensor. Pretty happy about it because the part alone was $470 taxes in.

Good-willed or was it under warranty? That's pretty generous if you aren't under warranty.

Good-willed. My warranty ended in February of this year. I've exclusively taken my car to this dealer throughout the warranty period. Maybe they figure I'm a prime trade-in candidate or something. Either way, extremely impressed.

Hi,
just had this Code this morning and I have to admit that my car is taking more gas than usual (around 12.9L/100km compared to 11.8L/100km last year). In my case I think I have a small exhaust leak as I hear sometime slightly more noise than usual. I cleared the code for now and I will see if it comes back. I'm taking Super 91 gas from Costco dunno if can be a problem. I'll try to put 94 octane and see. Does oxygen sensors covered by 6 year engine warranty ?
