Default IS learns how you drive?

This has been discussed before, but help me out.
Lately my SPORT mode setting is seemingly not as responsive.
I don’t think it is a “problem”.

Can the car, learn, re-learn, and un-learn your habits?

I believe learning part only affects throttle response, the only way to unlearn is by unplugging battery for 10 min to let ECU reset.

If you are convinced, you could disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to reset the ECU.

However, what symptoms are you experiencing? I mean, after driving my car for so long, sometimes I feel it's not as responsive, and then other times I feel it's more responsive. A lot of factors can play into that. I've learned to just let it be, unless it's a real issue that is consistent.

Yeah, that’s it. But this happened on several
different drives in a row. I was also going to post
that the car can have different personalities on each
drive, like you said. I also said that I didn’t think it was
a problem. I am certainly going to just leave it alone.

Sorry if I sounded dismissive. I hope your car is still driving great. If there's a pattern to what it is doing please update us on here.

No offense taken, man!

I perhaps did not explain well. I noticed two different things, both of which I believe are normal.

1. Each time I drive the response may vary (as you said).
2. The SPORT mode just seemed consistently subdued lately, versus the variability you mentioned.

Weather affects performance. Sometimes it will feel like you're driving a V8, other times it will feel like a prius.

Weather effects means temp? Traction?

Air pressure as well. Colder temperatures are, by definition, because the air molecules are moving around less and are closer together, thus you are able to cram more air into the intake. This improves power just a tad. But only to a point, I assume.

^This. But I kindda relate to what the OP is saying. Meanwhile, I don't experience this issue on my IS300 after the RR tune. In my case, everytime I need power and step on the gas, I get an expected response.

Add to weather would be traffic conditions, your driving reactions also depends on the vehicles around you.

Regular maintenance can affect things. These modern engines respond really well to fluid and filter changes. My car can feel sluggish when it is time for a service, then spirited again after a service.

I see this is an older thread that has been brought back to life.
On a somewhat related idea, I'd like to know what effect there might be if I disconnect my car's battery for 10 minutes or more.
It's a '17 350 AWD that I purchased used with 24,000 miles. Car looks great and runs well, but it stays on "fast idle" too long, when I start it first time in the morning.
I'm wondering if simply resetting it might change the way it behaves.
Would I lose anything important by disconnecting the battery?

You would lose a lot of your settings by disconnecting the battery. If you want to reset it without disconnecting the battery, you would need to do so via Techstream I believe, or have the dealer do it for you.

Thanks for the reply. I don't mean to be argumentative. Wouldn't the settings revert to their default values? I understand the suggestion that Techstream or equivalent might be a better way, but I thought there might be an easier way.

No worries, I didn't mean to make my post sound argumentative either, if it was.

Honestly it's probably not too much trouble to set up things like your phone and such again. Disconnecting the battery is not a bad option if you prefer not to go to the lengths of resetting the transmission memory on its own.
