Default Engine air filter replacement - how often?

I'm right at 50K miles - time for an oil change. The maintenance schedule suggests cabin air replacement, but no engine air replacement.

How often do you guys replace the engine air filter?

I moved to Texas in March and it's definitely more dusty here.
Should I just change 'em both and be done with it?

IIRC, the maintenance schedule lists engine air filter to be replaced at 30k miles intervals.

Thanks, you're right. I went backwards to 40,000 miles on the scheduled maintenance instead forward to 60,000.

Regardless of interval, it doesn't need changing unless it's dirty enough. It's easy to check so just pop the lid open and check how clogged it is. If you have an air compressor, you can shoot from inside to out on the filter and extend the life for free as well.

In addition to shooting compressed air or brushing it off with clean paint brush, I also rotate air filter 180 degrees, or since my ls460 has 2, can swap sides after cleaning to extend

Horrible advice. Never used an air compressor to clean out an air filter.

im know im late but people who read this need to know. DO NOT USE AIR TO BLOW OUT YOUR AIR FILTER. SMH

I’ve vacuumed the top of an air filter before but would never blow compressed air through it, too much risk of making invisible perforations

Plus there will be a larger hole where any small rocks were lodged which will let larger particles through. Filters are pretty cheap, so unless you are using a K & N where you wash it and then re-oil to use again, just get a new one.

It will damage the air filter if you do this. Either replace it or wash it (if you have a washable filter in there).

thats right. it can compromise the filtering and let smaller particles into the intake. or straight up rip it. No bueno.

I had a blue fsport and an aem reusable. I would switch them out once it started looking dirty. So maybe twice a year. definitely not necessary lol.
