Apple/Android CarPlay
You’re missing the point haha I’m replying to dojoman’s comment. I’m not saying that the 2018’s are getting it or that any 2018’s have it. Lol I am simply stating that the 2018’s could easily be updated for it and Lexus is being stupid and wants to use it as a selling point so they most likely won’t retroactively update.
Every time I see a thread like this on car forums I see the same trend..I have yet to see a car manufacturer retrograde/upgrade the infotainment to add CarPlay/AA on a previous model. I'm going to assume that this is not likely going to happen for 2018's or before. CarPlay appears to have specific hardware requirements (ex. the chipset) that it needs to run. If the IS doesn't have the exact chipset then you will not be able to do a software upgrade to get CarPlay. If anyone has evidence of this being done on another car please let me know. It would be very insightful. Thanks

Good info to know, it has not happened yet from what I'm reading but it would be good to know what exactly they change to allow this to work when they do. I'm still guessing its a hardware update. Most likely at the usb connection to be able to be MFI certified.
When I read about it, they were just doing a software update.

Obviously there are other car manufacturer's that can add Carplay via software, GM, Ford, BMW, Mazda, except TOYOTA. Just look at Tesla how much they can add new features via over the air update.
I guess I shouldn't hope anything will happen for my 2015 IS
I got an ad (I think it was on Instagram) last week that had hardware that could be installed to allow the car to use Android Auto. It would use the existing nav screen and the other controls. I would've been more interested if it supported both Apple and Google.

Biggest hope we have is a lawyer in this group takes it to court against toyota/Lexus. They sold the platform with app suites like pandora that they took away, force them to retro android/apple CarPlay for current cars. I own a 2018 Camry xse and 2017 Lexus is200t, really pissed they took pandora away and did not give us CarPlay.
Well I’m currently enjoying Apple CarPlay with the aftermarket 10.25” unit I bought. I’m not going to wait for Lexus to just decide one day that they might retroactively offer a firmware/software update for Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. It’s very unlikely to happen.
If I had nav I'd probably go with this option. https://gromaudio.com/store/vline/le...nt_system.html
