Default 2014 IS 250 Maintenance Question

Hi everyone,

Just picked up a 2014 IS250 base model and I am really enjoying it. However, the car came with no service reports, and doesn't even have a oil change sticker, though the dealer said he recently changed it (and he's trustworthy).

My question is: How do I know when my lexus needs maintenance? Will it tell me through the messages screen when anything is needed (like brakes, transmission fluid, oil)?

Sign up and if it was serviced at a Lexus dealership you'll be able to see that:

Got it, thank you.

But will the 'info' indicator give me messages for when I need brakes and things other than oil?

No, the reminder is based off mileage. When you get an oil change the oil change reminder is reset. The rest of the maintenance is based off mileage too, but should be tracked by yourself. Your owners manual has the recommended mileage for maintenance. A lot of the intervals tell you to just inspect certain components; thus, you may be able to go a while without changing for example brakes or you may have to change them sooner depending on habits and the areas you drive in. I personally would inspect stuff or take it in to be inspected if you’re not totally sure what’s in good shape and what isn’t.

What's the mileage? I'm a supporter of preventive maintenance, so if you have 50K or more on the clock - and I'm guessing Deleware sees snow, I would replace the transmission and differential fluids (best to replace the transmission fluid at the dealership since fine-tuning the fluid level is temperature-dependent and requires their special service tools), then start tracking your maintenance from thereon in. Engine oil is easy; you can tell if it's clean or not by checking the levels on the dipstick.

Also mind your filters like the engine air filter and cabin filter. If you are not mechanically inclined at all, go to a shop you trust or consult a car enthusiast co-worker.

Brakes there are no reminders for unlike in some European cars. You will need to have them inspected periodically, like at every oil service.

Good idea. The car has zero service reports, even carfax and drivers.lexus has nothing.

It has 67k miles. I was told the 60k service was done, but how can I be sure? I trust the dealer but I'm thinking about asking my local shop whether it was actually done.
I like your transmission fluid advice.

I'll call around and see if I can get transmission fluid for $200 or less, as that seems to be roughly the amount shops are charging!
