IS200t Oil Catch Can
 

Hi ClubLexus,

I apologize beforehand if this is incorrectly tagged or posted.

I recently came into possession of a IS200t. It has truly been a dream to own.
Will be posting a build thread once I get some time and some good pictures.

Since this is a turbo-charged engine with both port and direct injection, there seems to be no need to implement a oil catch can.
Either way I still want to install one as an experiment, just to measure what is coming out of the pcv.

Currently, I have concluded 1 & 2 (see pics) maybe possible tubes to intercept for the oil catch can.
Tube 1 definitely goes straight into the intake manifold from what I can see on my engine.
Tube 2, I have some uncertainty since it might be leading into the intake charge pipe before the air-to-water heat-exchanger (intercooler), but it does start/stem from the same location of Tube 1.
I haven't pulled and looked inside of either of the tubes for oil/residue, but maybe this weekend I might get some time to poke around.

Anyone want to chime in?

Honestly, it's a premium car. Not really a boy-racer (unless you make it one)

I don't see any need for an oil catch can. Just do frequent oil changes and enjoy the ride.

You start trying to reinvent the wheel and you might introduce other problems. Particularly if you're under warranty.

Let cars work for you, not the other way around. Just enjoy the car.

Nan , i suggest you should stop your wisdom thinking about oil-catch can for the New Lexus especially Direct Injection Engine E46CT is right, you will create a problem, 4 years ago i jumped in an argument with Jeff Lange about OCC AFTER my experiment i have failed and wronged because oil catch can did not help either IS250 or 350 Engine instead it holds up Engine pressure and slow down the car and the gas felt harder everyday until i removed it and dumped it in the garbage bin, the Can i bought costs $120. the Can did work for old car and custom turbo but not OEM one. i bought the Can but i customized the mounting bracket .

Haven't had much time to update my progress but continuing on the experiment.
I did eventually install a OCC at 14k miles. Currently at 30k miles.
It has also caught alot of blow-by from the pcv valve.
There are a couple of points I wanted to monitor but for now, I picked point 1 from my intial post as it has the most blow-by.
Point 2 is also pushing blow-by vapors into the rear charge-pipe and making its way through the air-to-water intercooler.
Plan to install a OCC here as well to keep the intercooler clean.
There is a 3rd point just before the turbo and it is also showing oily vapors.

pnoygil had OCCs on all 2 points before his IS200t was totaled.

Hopefully I'll put together a DIY once summer rolls around, along with the long-term review of the RCF LCA bushings (15k).
Currently on 30k miles with stock tires, no signs of continued inner tire wear (no alignment).
Planning on disassembling the intake manifold or snaking in a borescope to take a look at the valves.
Rather catch this stuff in the OCCs than to feed it back into the engine, onto the valves, and through the exhaust.
With the combination of the situational port injection and reduction of blow-by, hopefully this will prevent (not all) carbon buildup.

Currently hunting down ways to better Knock Correction Learn Value (KCLV) with pngo. Will also create another thread on the subject. KCLV is also directly affected by carbon buildup along with a few other factors.

While relocating my failing wastegate valve, I had to remove my intake piping.
Noticed some dirty blow-by coming from point 3.
This feeds straight into the turbocharger, definetly fast-tracking adding a OCC for point 3 & 4 after valve is replaced.

Just wondering if anyone here with an OCC has input one which one to go with & any how-to's? Seems fairly straight forward lol but just checking. Thanks!
