I took my car into get a estimate on a "small" dent and scratch. The one body shop is claiming i'd have to have my whole rear quarter panel replaced due to the location of BSM. Isn't this located in the bumper area? Can anyone confirm the location of this sensor? See attached for damage.
I'm probably wrong but I thought the BSM sensors were located inside, just behind, the side-view mirrors.
I think someone once started a thread here and included a bunch of pics of a tear down of their side-view mirrors which detailed exactly where those sensors are and what they look like..... but I can't find that thread in a search...

technically that is still the rear quarter panel.
if they can claim the BSM needs to be replaced and the Insurance is footing the bill anyways, whats the big deal here?
here's how its mounted in real life (driver side shown)
If proper repair of the damage requires replacement of the quarter panel, then I'd have no issue with them doing that, but I can't understand how the fact that there is a BSM sensor hanging on it is a factor in that decision.
If the OP's car wasn't equipped with BSM, what repair would they suggest?
I am having a very hard time seeing the link between the scratch and the BSM sensor. I would definitely want a second opinion/quote.
