IS200t Turbo Valve Failure Warning Signs
Hello everyone,
I know for a fact there are several 200t drivers on here who have had a turbo valve replaced on their cars, myself included. When my first one went, I began experiencing boost surge/inconsistent boost under constant throttle application. What are other symptoms you've seen on a car with a bad valve? Right now, my car sounds like it has a power steering pump that is low on fluid/going bad. I suspect it's the valve, once again. Obviously these cars are electric power steering, but that's the closest thing I could relate the sound to.
That being said, does anyone recall what signs their car gave before failure?

Its either you get the boost fluctuations, noise or both.

The vacuum valve regulator is a big problem with this engine. In Taiwan, dealers are out of stock on replacements and lead time is typically two weeks. That said, when warranty is over, will this be chargeable since it actually can be classified as a manufacturer defect with so many affected. The part is cheap, it's the labor that pinches.

Interesting thread. I just started to notice today tjat in second gear that the turbo almost doesn't respond, and I just happened to stumble on this forum today. It feels like I'm not stepping on the pedal hard enough.
I also put some really garbage gas in recently so I'll try filling up to see if it goes away. If not, I'll update you guys.

My 16 200t sometimes gets that whiny power steering pump type noise too. like it's low on oil or something and gears are unhappy. though doubt its anything to do with the valve. the whiny noise tends to happen while im turning and accelerating--usually an oil starvation effect. but i'm not turning hard at all. like turning left at a light normally.

As @Miintt stated, it will be covered under the powertrain warranty. Make sure they do the TSB that also replaces the little hose that connects to the turbo vacuum regulator valve. The old TSB only replaced the actual valve and not the hose which the larger diameter hose seems to really help.

Paid for the diagnostic, turns out since it only has to do with emissions so it is only covered under the 4year/80,000km warranty. Quote for repair is $739.56 for the regulator and transmitting hose. Doesn’t look too hard to replace so i will probably do it myself.

What? Lol It literally affects how the engine performs. That’s so dumb. I would call Lexus Corporate and complain.
