Default 3IS Steering technology

I have a 2014 IS350 AWD F-Sport.

My understanding is that since it is the AWD version, it does not come with the VGRS system.

What is the difference between the standard Steering system and the VGRS? When I put my car into Sport+ mode I can definitely tell that the steering gets stiffer, at higher speeds I can also tell that it gets stiffer.

I believe the steering system we have is a Harmonic Drive System. Based off that, does the VGRS simply feature a more active wave generator than non VGRS? A long shot but is there anyway to edit the behavior of the wave generator thus tightening the steering?
