Question Manual Shifting on IS350 F-Sport

Hi, Just wondering - how often do you utilize the manual shifting on your IS?

I see some guys on YouTube flapping the paddles like there's no tomorrow!! Is this detrimental at all to any components?

Any comments//suggestions on pros, cons, things to keep in mind, or other? Gas consumption?

THANKS!!

PS >>> while in manual mode the automatic downshifting is pretty cool, BUT when you manually downshift Lexus really let's ya "feel" it eh Wondering how they designed & engineered the latter... some kinda choke, less gas, etc? THANKS!!

PSS >>> how does manual shifting feel and/or work on other Lexus models, or automatic Audi, Benz, BMW, etc?

I utilize it quite often for down-shifting, I am in a hilly terrain and this is the way for me to help prevent excessive brake wear.

I also use it sometimes for braking. Also, its fun in S+, hearing the throttle blip it sexy.

I would say that I use my paddles about 20% of the time....

These are the conditions I usually use manual shifting:

* Trying to slow down a little
* When I want to downshift prior to passing a vehicle
* When I am in traffic at low speed and don't want to see the car always hunt for the higher gear
* When I want to have fun

You mean sometimes when you're in automatic, sometimes for braking you switch it to manual, downshift to slow down, and then brake?

Do you mean when you want to pass someone, you downshift to a lower gear, then step on the gas, then upshift? Why not just step on the gas and upshift?

I just like to downshift by one gear so when I press the accelerator, its just primed and ready to go even faster.....Its not required, its just playing with it.

if you reall ythink about it, you would really save more money over time if you use your brakes ($50 pads) instead of gas ($1 a day maybe?) lol

it seems to me you have gaps in your knowledge how engine braking works, there is no 'gas' involved. lol
Truck drivers use the same method - and believe me they know how to count $$.

Is there any way to shift Nitro and REV like a Manual standard transmission ? in Standard Transmission you press and hold Clutch to REV, can we do it in this car ?

It seems to me you have a gap in your knowledge of common sense. If you down shift or hold a gear for engine braking instead of letting the transmission shift to higher gears, you would waste more gas. Very little gas everyday, but it would surpass price of brakes in the long run. I don't know how else I can explain.

NO, there is no fuel being injected into cylinders when car is coasting, in gear, with your foot off the gas pedal. Like they say, the fuel pulse 'width' is zero.

shouldn't be using any gas when coasting cause these cars have fuel cut when coasting. so engine braking you shouldn't be using any gas

Just about every car cuts fuel with foot off the gas.

As far as paddles, I use them more than I thought I would. The stock 8AT likes to upshift too much and too fast, so keeping it in 1st or 2nd gear when maneuvering through traffic is a big help--especially with the 200t's delayed take off response.
