I dislike our cup holder position, so I use a portable holder that I found out of a W220 MB S-Class (early 2000s models) that looks like a pot, and it holds my morning coffee well on the commute. I put it on the passenger seat, and it's tall enough and sturdy enough to never flip over, and easrier to reach for. The insides walls have movable rubber grips that give when you put a cup in, so it holds the cup tight.

Anyone who's a junkyard aficionado, look for one from an early 2000s S-Class.

 

I looked at the pics before reading the post and couldn't figure out if you were drinking coffee in the car or making coffee in the car...LOL!!! It really does look like a pot...OMG!!
