Actually just spoke to someone from the DMV and it turns out that I still need to get a smog check done.
The sticker just says that it "should" pass the smog check, but it doesn't make the car exempt from smog checks.
This is true for any new out-of-state vehicle.
Atleast this is what the DMV guy told me.

Also, you should go to DMV to get it registered because you'll pay the registration fee and taxes there. The tax will be in the thousands so you don't want some smog guy getting that check

Yes, that's what I was thinking as well. Why take the risk?
