I understand if you are going 435 or 340, but the 328 is actually slower and more expensive. Additionally the interior on the BMW is actually very outdated ( you will feel it as soon as you are in). BTW a fully loaded f sport shouldn't cost more than 52k and usually it will cost around 50k ( thats how much the current one cost and the new one shouldn't be much different ).

Is 0-60 really that important? Even with 300+ HP what is the 0-60 going to go down to, 5.2-5.4 ... Is that maybe .5 really that important?

Reliability and cost to maintain would be a much bigger factor than 0-60 ...

He's 17 and his sig says he doesn't even have a drivers license yet. So this is really one of those threads where nothing really comes out of it.

Not sure why you want a brand new car at 17 (not even talking about affording one for $55k). My first car was the best in entire and huge high school, I paid $12-13k for it (actually my father did and I paid him later)

That said you can save $20-25k and still have 4 years of warranty left on a used CPO.

missed that ... lol ... OK, I'm done here. At 17 the LAST thing you need to worry about is 0-60 but I'm going to ASSume the parentals will be picking up the tab so whatever floats your boat. I'm 33 and have a family and bills to take care of so I'm worried about longevity and cost of maintenance.

I'm considering both as well. At first I really like the Audi S3 since it is in the $50k mark with both of these cars but the wife ruled it out because it was too rough. So we test drove the 328ix and the IS350 F-sport. In test driving all of these cars, I noticed the S3 was much faster than both even though it had a few less hp than the Lexus and the BMW was about the same as the Lexus with 40hp less. Looking at 1/4 mile times and trap speeds from magazine tests confirmed it, so no, the 328 is not slower, it is right there with the IS350. The S3 was a good bit faster than both. I too am surprised the BMW is as fast as the Lexus with less hp. We like both and have been lifelong Lexus/Japanese car buyers. Never owned an upscale German car so I think this time around we are going to lease the BMW to try something different.

Man. Im confused. You have 5 lexuses (lexi?) In your house and getting another car? Instead of a 350 you want a 328i?
Your 17 and you want a bmw or lexus instead of something like an evo or sti?

No offense, but I'm with some of the other guys here..

Your 17. Power is not your priority. Heck, how are you affording to purchase/lease a luxury car? Not, to mention the insurance rate your gonna have to be paying for a 50k car + being a male + being young.

When I was 17, I drove a piece of sht 1994 mazda protege for many years. I'm now 22, with some savings and working multiple jobs while going to school, is when I could afford to pay (or rather, finance) for a 50k car.

But if you still insist. CPO BMWs or any German cars are the way to go. Even CPO Lexus are very good too. Or just go with all the youngster with their BRZs and FRSs loool. Goodluck tho.

Had a 5.0 Genesis -- a fast car with a great engine -- but a poor handler. Speed is over rated imo -- particularly when you're in a city. I can enjoy the Fport and it's virtues just switching lanes on the freeway. Genesis was a blast up to about 40 when I had to slam on the brakes for traffic and sit there with all of that hp and no where to go.

Just curious, did you go with the IS200T or IS300? If you went for the 350 would the same hold true for getting the 350 over the lower models?

The gearing on the 3IS isn't aggressive below 60mph. The 328 is about as fast from a stop for sure. However, after 60mph, I find the 3IS pulls away from a 328...i've done it first hand From a highway roll, its also faster than the 328 and handles better to boot. The advantage with the 328 is that its super easy to make it faster than the 350. If i were to lease, I'd get a 340 instead. Those things pull like a freight train
