Default New owner, some questions

Hello guys,

Brand new owner of a lexus is350 fsport (2015).

Just had a few noob questions.

1. License plate bracket. I want a rear one that is black and of quality. I went on amazon and there are tons but always some negative reviews. I don't mind paying more for one that I can be sure isn't complete crap. Do you guys have any recommendations?

2. What is the cleanest method you've seen to put your phone somewhere in the car? From my previous cars there was always that tray in front of the shifter to put my phone. Now, the USB slot is only in the middle console, so I'm not sure where most people have ended up putting their phone. Lately i just plop it in the cup holder. I'm guessing the only solution if I want to be able to view my phone is to get a suction cup holder and put it over the left side of my steering wheel, on the glass. However, I'd need a very long cord to charge it. I could suction it in the middle of the windshield, but that kind of obstructs the nav screen.

3. Speaking of Nav, the built in nav is terrible in my opinion. I like google maps much more on my phone. Is there a method to show my phone screen on the nav screen?

4. What is up with remote start? After we start the car and then go to open the door, the car turns off... In the winter, do people remote start their car to warm it up, and then get in their car and restart it? Seems like an extra unnecessary step.

5. What are the best fog lights to purchase? Are there any known fog lights that are considered the "best" as of right now?

Thanks!

Oh, here's a stock pic:

Congrats on your new ride, and welcome.

1. Sorry, no input from me.

2. There's a lengthy thread here of phone ideas:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...our-phone.html

3. You cannot mirror your phone on the nav.

4. All Lexus remote start systems work this way.

5. You could get the JDM F Sport fogs. Details here:

1. Not sure

2. Can use something like this to add extra USB ports to the blank switches on the left of the steering wheel. So that you can hook up your phone with the suction cup on the left side.

4. This has been discussed lots of times over the forum. No matter you like it or not, that's how it's built.

5. OEM kit

1. try ebay
2. I use proclipusa's mount in my 3IS and my 1RCF. It somewhat covers a bit of the vent up, but I think its a perfect place to mount if you want to use your phone and google maps. (proclipusa.com)
3. There is no easy way. there are hardware hacks out there, not recommended.
4. remote start is like that from Lexus claiming security reasons. think of it as remote cooling of car rather than remote start, you will feel better
5. personal opinion, the f-sport looks better without Fogs... the location of the OEM fog light just looks weird and out of place

wow. okay that on is a bit TOO expensive haha.

Thanks for the reply on everything else guys. I don't think I'll be doing the fog lights. I found a phone solution that I like (Proclipsusa). With the phone attached to the dash, I won't need to display phone on the nav screen. Also, I'll live with the remote start "issue".

As for a quality plain black plate bracket, I'll continue looking.

You know what? You're right. Maybe I'll just take the ugly chrome one they gave me off and just screw in the plain license plate itself with no bracket.

Default I found one that I like for my starfire pearl 3IS

I bought this one in white - here in Florida we can't cover up any part of the tag without creating a "probable cause" for a traffic stop, so I bought the slim version. YMMV in MA.

I have another question:

Do you guys bring your car to the dealer for those free washes? Is that a guaranteed way to get swirls and scratches?

On the same topic, do any of you use any type of paint protection? 3M spray on, XPEL, opticoat, etc....

No, I do not.

Yes, in my opinion, it is.

I use OptiCoat on my cars. I've been incredibly pleased with it. Between that coating, HydrO2 treatment, and making sure no one washes them but me, I have hardly any swirls on my cars.

3) There's a group buy going on for the module that will allow you to mirror your phone to the nav screen by beatsonic

It basically tricks your vehicle into thinking it's in park with the parking brake on, which allows you to use the video input options.

Figured I'd let you know in case you were interested.
