Default Text notification popup, phone grayed out?

Strangest thing, I don't get how it works. When I receive a text message, you get the popup on the screen that gives you three options: Read, Ignore, [Phone Icon]. However the phone icon has always been grayed out for me.

The other day, I got a text from Amazon about a package being delivered, and it was from a 5-digit phone number (the codes you can text). When I got a text from them, the phone icon WASN'T grayed out. This happened again when I received another 5-digit text from AT&T - the phone icon was active.

It seems I can only call someone back from a text if it's a 5 digit number? Wtf?

Does anyone else have this problem?

Attached is a picture - obviously I should be able to call them because I have the number since the contact is loaded

No one else sees this? Do other people have the Phone icon available?

edit: for what it's worth, I dug through the manual and found the pages referencing these screens. There was no note explaining why it would be grayed out in certain situations.

I believe you are using iPhone and this function is not supported with iPhone. You can find a complete compatibility list using this website:

Well that doesn't make any sense, but sure enough it says it can't call back the sender of an SMS text. I wonder why, on this one screen, it's not capable of doing that? No real logic there...

It probably has something to do with the iOS. Quick reply is not supported as well. If you really want that function, go grab an Android.
