It happens on F-Sport IS with regular suspension only. According to the dealer, it looks to be related some way or another to too stiff dampers.

Depending on the car, the noise can be very loud.

The answer we got from Lexus France was : "works as designed, the cars comply with Lexus factory standards" .
That's a design flaw and as such, dealers cannot do anything about it. That's where we stand today.

I just cannot understand how Lexus could let this problem heavily impact on the brand reputation.

As per today, the only choice left to us over here is to sell the car. (one already did it).

I'm pretty sure Lexus Japan will come up with afix one day, the question is ... when ?
Works as designed made me chuckle. I have been in the software industry for 15 years and development says that a lot, but then they start working on unrelated enhancements.

Did you properly tie up and tie down the person in the trunk?

I had an Acura MDX that used to have this problem and never found a fix. The thumping noise came from the right rear, where the subwoofer was. I always wondered if the large speaker was somehow turning the vibration from the bump into an audible sound. Never did figure it out.

My IS is pretty quiet. Bump noise from the rear is a bit louder than the front, but nothing abnormal. Isn't there a subwoofer in our rear deck? If so, is it possible that it's picking up the motion of the bump and converting that energy into an audible thump noise? The suspension in my IS is much much quieter than my 335i ever was. Have you checked your tire pressure?
