Default Emergency Kit

Hi everyone,

With winter here (for some of us) I was wondering what kind of things you guys put in your emergency kits (if you have them). I plan on doing some excursions to the Rocky Mountains this winter and I figured I'd better have something together just incase anything happens.

I plan on having:

Blanket (probably thermal)
Knife
Lighters
Candles
Rope (can anyone recommend what kind of rope I should get)
Gloves/hat
Those hand/feet warmer packets you can buy on the ski hills

Can you guys recommend anything else? I already have a set of booster cables in the car, but I'm debating on buying a jump-starter pack(Are there anyones that you guys recommend)?

Interested in hearing what you guys have in your emergency kits.

I have nearly the same kit:

Blankets - 4 one for each seat
Candles
Strike All Matches
Coffee tin - to put the candle in
Basic recovery gear - Bubba Rope and 3/4" shackles (2)
Hand/feet warmers - 8 two for each seat - buy these at Costco box of 40 for $19.

On longer trips I take along a booster pack. Since your in Alberta I bought mine from Canadian Tire:

Basic first ait kit.

Tho I don't drive on the heaviest snow covered roads, just stanards norwegian winter roads, I always have a few supplies in the car. Basic thermal blancket, cell phone charger, emergency light and flashlight, first aid kit, visability west and some other small stuff.
If I were to take a trip over the mountains, I'd pack the following, so I'd be prepared if the car got stuck.

Shovel, easy mounting tire chains, batteries, flashlight, emergency light, matches, candles, warm blankets, warm clothes, extra battery pack for cell phone, swiss army knife, first aid kit, tin cup to heat snow into water and a couple of chockolate bars.

I have bought the NOCO GB30 when it was on sale@ Canadian Tires some time ago this year.

It is a jump-starter (400A) as well as a mobile battery for USB devices (up to 2A). Also it has LED flashlights with 7 modes and it has IP65.

NOCO says it could hold the charge up to 1 year but I don't have it long enough to verify it.

Bought it to be proactive about the 3IS battery drain despite my IS hasn't exhibited this bug (yet)

I also have the NOCO GB30 jump starter. It's a quality unit compared to some of the other ones on the market, plus it's idiot-proof so as long as you don't override the unit. Well worth paying $20 more for this compared to the other junk. I got tired of having a 30lbs jump starter in my car so this NOCO is quite an upgrade in performance, weight, and physical size.
