need advice - trade in possible or keep? pic!
so, as an update for anyone who cares, i think it would be much more prudent to keep the car that i have now than to trade it in because i'm just not getting great trade-in value offers despite aggressive negotiation.
it's all really disappointing to say the least, although i did try and that's what matters.
important to note that i did do all of the negotiation attempts via telephone and email and so perhaps it would be worthwhile to actually walk into a dealership as one has more presence and said presence commands more attention. all of that said, it has been disappointing as a number of dealers have failed to return calls or respond to emails after basic inquiries were made.
longo lexus was the worst, though, offering some 32k for the car. ridiculous. others came pretty damn close, though, and i really don't want to roll negative equity into a new loan. my current loan, as of today, stands at around 36.5k which isn't bad. at least the car is optioned to my liking -- luxury and navigation packages with intuitive parking assist and a number of other fun options.
ah, well.

You made the sensible choice that will save you thousands. Keep it at least a while longer once your equity matches the trade-in value, then make the move.
surprising, though, that the trade-in value wasn't higher given the options and packages that the (nearly new) vehicle is equipped with. i was expecting to break even at 36.5k owed on the finance note on a car with an msrp of 44.5k, albeit i paid significantly less than that, clearly.
a north county san diego lexus dealer is pestering me slightly, although i don't think their offer will be much better, if better at all, than the rest of the lot.
perhaps in a few years i'll get the rc350 - looks like a neat car, although i'd have to see the front fascia in person.
so, wait, how much did you wind up paying for the 350 given that you lost over 10k on the 250 over a period of three months?
that's nuts that you paid 44k, which is one of the highest msrps you can just about reach on the non-f-sport is250 with the luxury / navigation packages (which i think you mentioned your car having) without negotiating down. even more nuts that you accepted 33.5k for the car three months after purchasing.

You know you like the IS350 better, but money is the problem. It's a hard decision when you made the wrong choice like me. The IS200t is coming soon since everyone is talking about, I believe once it comes out the IS250 is going to be a shadow and soon be eliminated from the game. I'm not sure about the IS350, but it seems like it would still be in a good position with the GS350.
Yeah just want to emphasis the point that I got the IS250 luxury package for 44k right when it came out then 3 months later got the IS350 F Sport for 45k only, both has navigation. It was a no brainer to get the IS250.
Are those 2 tiny fog lights in the RC350 really going to be position there? Either way the fog lights is a no no to me lol

Sorry it didn't work out for you, you did the right thing sticking to your guns. You probably could have done a little better to actually go one of the dealers but not enough to make a deal.
It sounds like to the large discounts given on the west coast are going to bite the buyers out in the butt when it comes to trading in their cars in the future. It won't effect leasers that much but those that bought outright may not be happy in a few years. It will only get worse when the 27 and 36 month leased cars start piling up on the dealers lots as used cars in a year or two. The dealers won't find a better car than yours for trade in value so that is really disappointing to hear with what they offered you.
Wait for RC and it will turn out probably better for you in the long run anyway

I got the IS350 F Sport for only 45k without tax, so got it down from 48k. I saw them selling the IS250 I traded for 38k and they are ready to drop it down lower because a customer would negotiate. Their incentives for them trading my IS250 in and them selling it out for maybe 36k is only about 2.5k differences. Honestly, if you were to think about it that's how it works, so it's not crazy that they offer you 32k for trade in value. The car drops down 3k once it's out the door buddy. Do not forget you will end up paying taxes for both cars, that is why you would lose over 10k as well. Car value depreciates so fast, so if you don't want to use the money then don't play the game

all in all, would it be nice to have a 350? sure. am i going to compromise the great transaction that i paid for my 250 if the numbers don't look right to me at this point in time? no.

waiting, whether for the next generation IS or for the RC would both be financial transactions that would sit much better with me holistically.
thanks for your advice as well as to everyone else who guided me along!
it's not necessarily that money is the problem. i could surely walk into a dealer tomorrow and purchase a 350, albeit with more down on the to-be new car so that my loan would hover around where it is now - 36.5 (i've only made one payment on the existing loan). the problem is that i don't want to enter into a bad financial agreement just because i can't pass quickly enough on the freeway as within the routinely congested city traffic that i'm always in, the 250 and the 350 aren't terribly distinguishable from one another. passion-driven, poorly-understood financial decisions aren't, well, sensible.

Money is the reason why you even bought the IS250 to begin with otherwise there is no reason for you not to get the IS350, especially since you've made this post on the forum. Well said, since you're not willing to lose the already 4k you were going to pay on taxes that if you were to trade in then keep the 250 and do not at single moment regret your decision, which I think you cant do since again you've made this post. It's really asking for some members on this forums to side with you and lie to yourself that you can actually be happy with the IS250 when you actually really would be happier with an IS350. I would just want to give you an advice, that the closer the release date of the IS200t comes the lower the trade in value of your IS250 will be. Nothing is better than buying the top package of your car where buyer's remorse may not hurt as bad, IS350 F Sport. Last words, maybe you should test drive the IS350 F Sport before coming up with a decision and when you do then you will understand the real differences between an IS250 and IS350 F Sport with Sport + mode. Just trying to help, hope I do not sound arrogant

i was able to, at the time, only find the vehicle with the specifications that i desired - matador red mica, parchment leather interior with brown wood trim accents, the luxury package, the navigation/mark levinson package, intuitive parking assist, power rear sunshade, etc. in the 250 within the southern california area without having to order the car. the same specifications were not available in the 350, save for cars with black exteriors and i can't handle a black car.
because the price difference is minimal when shopping for a new 250/350 with the options elected, there really isn't a reason why someone inclined to buy a 350 would choose a 250 unless doing so under certain circumstances -- a lack of availability of vehicles that meet the needs of the consumer, for example, or a lack of (initial) interest in the performance of the 350, the aforementioned being applicable to me in this case.
coming from a 2008 is250 that i really did enjoy, i was ready to purchase the 3IS250 equally equipped and did do so, albeit with strict contingencies on how the vehicle was to be optioned. do i regret my purchase? no, not entirely, as the car is a fine vehicle. would i like to have the 350? sure. the extra power is nice to have when passing on the highway, for instance, and those extra four thousand are nothing. hindsight is 20/20, though, right? that said, am i completely fine holding onto the 250? absolutely. again, the car is a very well-equipped vehicle.
never make assumptions.
oh, and if you read my initial post and subsequent posts i mentioned that i was absolutely not at all interested in the f-sport because of the lack of available options that i desired.
i'm sorry you overpaid for your initial vehicle and then traded in said vehicle for several thousand less than you should have. i hope that you got a great deal on your 350, though, and i'm sure you're quite happy with it all. cognitive dissonance is something, isn't it?

hey all!
i purchased about a month or two ago a 2014 IS250 with the navigation/ML package as well as the luxury package. the car is pretty fully loaded with lane departure assist, power rear sunshade, dealer-installed illuminated door sills, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, pre-collision system with radar-assisted cruise control, led headlamps, linear brown wood trim, memory seats/steering wheel placement, and heated/ventilated front seats. i also opted for the mesh wheels. the car is matador red mica with parchment leather seating. i've already had it clear bra-ed and have also already had it coated with cquartz finest.
anyhow, the car is fantastic. i opted not to get the f-sport because i couldn't get the luxury features that i wanted on the f-sport variants and because i really dislike the f-sport front fascia. i REALLY do like the lfa-inspired instrumentation cluster, though.
anyhow, i'm torn because i really, really dislike the engine that the car has. i mean, it's not horrendous, but this is my second IS250 and i wound up settling (in hindsight) for an engine that really doesn't cut it.
i financed the car partially and owe approximately 37k on the loan at 1.9% for 60 months. i know you aren't supposed to walk away from a good loan if the car is cutting it and i also know that i shouldn't roll over negative equity. i mean, i also know that the car is worth more than i owe currently, although because i had the car specially ordered, it may be niche as i chose a ton of luxury appointments over drivetrain options. that said, i really wish i had the eight-speed transmission and the 3.5L engine.
AHH! what to do?! do you think that trading in the car (it currently has 1,350 miles) would be the largest mistake? do you think i should wait for the MY15 IS250? try for the 350? i'm just unsure if i'd be able to afford the appointments that i currently have with either of the above - the current 350 or the potential MY15 turbocharged 250.
here's a pic my car for reference should anyone be interested -

advice? anyone??

You have very nice car that is fully optioned and 2.5L would be good for most driving. I would keep it and get the one you want next time you purchase.
I bought Obsidian / Rioja Red and I really like it but afterwards I saw a Matadore Red Mica and that paint is BEAUTIFUL. Mica in the paint really stands out. Picture doesn't do justice for what that paint looks like.
