That has been one of the concerns with automakers for a long time when concerning Pre Collision Systems, the car cannot take into account for certian highway variables like tailgating and lane merging when you have to get close to a car. This is why most car companies don't come with it standard and customers have to read extensive documentation and sign an agreement that they understand it when buying a car that is packaged with PCS. I'm not sure if you had to do that but when my GF got her prius with PCS, the dealership gave her a book she had to read from the NHTSA before she accept the car.

The only company I think PCS is standard on all cars is volvo. But idk many people who still drive volvos

There is a button to switch it off underneath the steering wheel, close to the TPMS-button.
I just checked the manual and the car and I cannot find a PCS on/off switch.... The manual says it is on the left lower side of the dash. The only other way I see to turn it off is the VSC...

I have an F-Sport.

I believe it's actually under/below the steering wheel. Look down near your shins... (Convenient, eh?)

Interesting, I didn't know it auto-braked. I like the idea, but I completely understand the situation the OP was in.

Yup same thing happened to me. And sometimes you just forget about it when you drive everyday and its pretty much on everyday but will definitely not make the same mistake again.

No, not over on the side. I mean way, way down by your feet. You pretty much have to stick your head down in the footwell to see it. I tried to take a photo. It's by your TPMS reset button.

PCS is a completely different system from BSM. BSM only controls the indicators in your mirrors that alert you to a vehicle in your blind spot, and the rear cross traffic alert function, which warns you of rear cross traffic while you are in reverse.

PCS is a system that can activate the brakes if it believes you are headed for a frontal collision.

Two separate functions. Two separate switches.

I saw that as well, and funny enough, it's listed in the owner's manual as one of the conditions that can trigger it (as is the situation noted in the original post of this thread):

■ Conditions that may trigger the system even if there is no danger of a collision
● When there is an object by the roadside at the entrance to a curve
● When passing an oncoming vehicle on a curve
When driving over a narrow iron bridge
● When there is a metal object on the road surface
● When driving on an uneven road surface
● When passing an oncoming vehicle on a left-turn
When your vehicle rapidly closes on the vehicle in front
● When a grade separation/interchange, sign, billboard, or other structure appears to be
directly in the vehicle’s line of travel
● When there is a metal plate in the road in front of the vehicle on a downhill slope
● When climbing a steep hill causes an overhead billboard or other metallic structure to
appear directly in the vehicle’s line of travel
● When driving under an overpass
● When an extreme change in vehicle height occurs
● When passing through certain toll gates
● When passing through a tunnel
● When the radar sensor moves off position due to its surrounding area being subjected
to a strong impact
